Sanofi and GSK announce today the start of the Phase 1/2 clinical trial for their adjuvanted COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine candidate, developed in partnership by Sanofi and GSK, uses the same recombinant protein-based technology as one of Sanofi’s seasonal influenza vaccines with GSK’s established pandemic adjuvant technology.

The Phase 1/2 clinical trial is a randomised, double blind and placebo-controlled trial designed to evaluate the safety, reactogenicity (tolerability) and immunogenicity (immune response) of the COVID-19 vaccine candidate. A total of 440 healthy adults are being enrolled in the trial across 11 investigational sites in the United States.

The Companies anticipate first results in early December 2020, to support the initiation of a Phase 3 trial in December 2020. If these data are sufficient for licensure application, it is planned to request regulatory approval in the first half of 2021.

Which strain will this be for? Wonder when we can expect vaccines for the other 29+?

Covid 19 has mutated into at least 30 strains

Judging by the new COVID rates across Europe being higher than in August, after controlling the pandemic for nearly 4 months, I would think we are now into our second wave. The only way this will let up, is to shut things down again for up to 6 weeks, and while at it, change the way classrooms and offices are set up, as winter is fast approaching.
Canada is up to approximately 1300 cases/day, up from 350 just a month ago, and close to 1700/day, which was the peak of the first wave in mid April. As long as we keep it under 2,000 cases/day we should be fine. However, Im not optimistic we will achieve this through the Winter.
Is the rate of hospitalization rising along with the positive test result numbers?

Slightly. Not to the degree that it was in April, when a disproportionate number of elderly people in nursing homes were coming down with COVID. Now the demographics have changed, and it is the predominantly young who are becoming infected.

To put it bluntly, while possibly not being overly sensitive- April's flare ups were mainly due to ignorance while Sept's flare ups are mainly due to selfishness! (I can see what's coming, I'll be off line for awhile) :)

To a certain extent. However, a good number of the cases caught today are counted since more people are being tested. In April we had limited testing ability. A lot of the mild cases went unreported. Now the mild cases are being counted which is inflating the numbers. I do agree there are a handful of cases who are from idiots holding 150 guest weddings and some big parties.

Yep, you added another dimension to it.
