Re: COVIDD-19 'Pandemic'

Canada is one of the wealthiest and - before coronavirus lockdown - freest countries in the world (some despotic Third World regimes probably have more freedoms than Canada now), regularly voted as the best, or one of the next, countries to live in.

Sounds like the British did a very good job.
The so called lock down situation is TEMPORARY.......... and CDA will survive it as it has survived other challenging times. Most CDN are governed by commonsense and sound reason. They are not inclined to whine about losing their freedoms.........just because some extra caution is necessary to deal with a public health problem.

And this was before the donation to China

Feds likely didn't have enough protective gear in emergency stockpile: Hajdu

OTTAWA — Health Minister Patty Hajdu says the federal government likely did not have enough protective equipment in its emergency stockpile to meet needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hajdu tells a news conference today that federal governments have been underfunding public-health preparedness for decades.
She says the government is working hard to procure scarce equipment at a time when officials around the world are doing the same.
The government says the Public Health Agency of Canada has released items from the National Emergency Strategic Stockpile in support of provincial and territorial COVID-19 response efforts.
This has included personal protective equipment such as surgical masks, gloves and N95 respirators, as well as other items such as disinfectant and hand sanitizer.
The government says it is working to enhance its own stockpile to support provincial requests or those from other federal partners who may also be in need of equipment.

I imagine that couple of tonnes of supplies woulda made a difference.

Here comes the second wave

Trudeau defends new flights bringing Canadians home from across the globe

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canadians being flown home from abroad must subject themselves to "rigorous" and mandatory 14-day self-isolation to keep their fellow citizens safe.
Trudeau says Canadians must "look out for each other," but they have a duty not to infect others, especially health care workers.
"The public health case is that if people who return properly and rigorously self-isolate, then we are not significantly increasing the risk to everyone else," the prime minister said during his daily briefing at his Rideau Cottage residence.
Trudeau spoke as the government announced today that six planes carrying Canadians stranded in Africa and Europe are to touch down today in the effort to repatriate travellers stranded by COVID-19.
Global Affairs Canada says the planes will arrive from Algeria, Ecuador, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Hungary and Spain.
The department says the government is planning more flights from Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Peru, Algeria, Poland and Pakistan in the coming days.
Plans are also being made for several fights from India, starting on April 4 and continuing for the next four days until April 7.
The government is reiterating that not all Canadians stranded abroad will be able to come back to Canada, and that those returning will be subjected to mandatory self-isolation.
Trudeau said the government wants to see Canadians come home, "but we also very much expect and demand that they keep themselves and their neighbours safe by self-isolating in rigorous conditions for two weeks as soon as they get home.
"We would much rather have people home than have them stranded elsewhere around the world where things are getting — you know — worse."
Speaking in French, Trudeau said the government was "implementing strict and rigorous measures" so the people who come home do not endanger other Canadians, including their neighbours and health care workers.
The government says it has approved 449 loans worth $1.4 million under its emergency program for Canadians abroad and is processing another 900 loan applications.

Re: COVIDD-19 'Pandemic'

I can't believe how naive many people are. There are people out there who think several weeks or months of lockdown will rid the world of coronavirus.

If it was that simple, why have we never had lockdowns to get rid of cold and flu and other viruses?

The fact of the matter is that coronavirus is here to stay. I just hope that lockdowns aren't. Either governments will eventually take us out of lockdown and admit it hadn't worked or we're going to have to get used to living in authoritarian regimes.

That is why it is so critical to follow protocols and work hard at developing a vaccine. The variable in the situation is the RESISTANCE of people,....people who think they know better.

Just like income tax.
Do you think that you will have to self isolate and psychical distance for the rest of your life?? The hand washing protocol probably should continue. ;-)

BTW: Dr. Henry is a very good source of good information.

Yes she is but do you really trust her political masters with what she tells them? One of the problems is computer modelling. It is only as good as the input Data. This is where the globull warming truthers screwed up so badly. They made wild predictions about the future, none of which came true because they manipulated the data to make the results that they wanted. Same with the infection rate predictions. The masters of modelling make a wildly inflated prediction then bring in all kinds of drastic measures that may or may not help and then when the death rate is less than 10% of their predictions they claim all the measures worked. When in fact the problem was never anywheres near as bad as predicted but now we have to fight to get our freedoms back AND pay the costs of their programs.
