Avery Tsai, a 9-year-old vegetarian from Brooklyn, isn't in her fourth-grade class. Instead, she's marching in the streets to demand the adults around her take climate change seriously.
“I’m here to fight climate change, for my future, to solve all the climate change problems,” she told VICE News from Manhattan’s Foley Square. New York schools gave the city's students permission to skip class Friday to attend the demonstrations, and tens of thousands showed up.
“Strike more, march more, reduce your pollution,” Avery said, when asked how she’d solve the crisis.
Her peers around the world agree with her. At least 5,000 strikes in more than 150 countries are scheduled for Friday, led by 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. Altogether, the demonstrations are shaping up to be the biggest environmental protest in history. The young activists had read the apocalyptic reports, published one after the other, warning humanity will face rising tides, mass migrations, famines, droughts, floods, fires if carbon emissions don’t fall — and quickly. And they listened.
Many of the elementary and middle school students at the march could clearly articulate what climate change is and why it should be fought. And the 20-year-olds were debating whether a carbon tax was the best way to curb emissions. They know their climate science and their economics — because they know their future depends on knowing.

In Unprecedented Move, Head of Key Meteorological Organization Slams Climate Extremists
The head of the world’s foremost weather science organization issued a surprise rebuke to climate alarmists in remarks published on Sept. 6, marking what may be, according to some experts, one of the most significant developments in the climate debate in decades.
Petteri Taalas, the secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), told the Talouselämä magazine in Finland that he disagrees with doomsday climate extremists who call for radical action to prevent a purported apocalypse.
“Now we should stay calm and ponder what is really the solution to this problem,” Taalas said. “It is not going to be the end of the world. The world is just becoming more challenging. In parts of the globe, living conditions are becoming worse, but people have survived in harsh conditions.”
The remarks came as a “total surprise,” especially coming from Talaas, who has himself made alarmist statements about the climate, according to Benny Peiser, the director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation in London.
“I think they’re beginning to realize that the whole agenda has been hijacked by extremists and undermining the economy and the social stability of European countries,” Peiser told The Epoch Times.

Today someone was at my house griping about “bullshit climate change”, making fun of the protestors & calling it all fake. I stepped into the hallway and smiled. Imagine if he’d heard my songs, surely he’d hate them �� I smiled (recalling my time in the Arctic seeing the effects with my own eyes) as he lectured me about how earth is on it’s natural course. And I smiled at the framed photo of Dr. Jane Goodall and I over his shoulder as he made fun of Greta Thunberg. I smiled because when you resort to mocking children for promoting science, it means you’ve already lost. You have no argument. You’re on the ropes. And I LOVE that this brilliant little girl has them all running scared. I smiled and let him ramble on until he simply ran out of facts. I smiled because I was witnessing change! ��
I sleep well knowing these selfish dinosaurs will soon be gone; replaced by a diverse generation of open-minded forward thinking young people who will seize control, rebuild & live differently.
