There has been much distortion, adding and deleting from the original texts.. It does not mean all of the texts are wrong, but some addition and subtraction and alteration cannot be denied, especially after the passing of ages and generations, and after the missing of the original texts in their original languages .. then through translations from language to language .. the alteration happened certainly.

The Quran differs in this respect, because it is in the original language, and it is kept and known by heart .. so that nothing related to the principal teachings has occurred .. not like the Bible (the Gospel and the Torah) to which major changes occurred relating to the principal teachings and belief.

While the hadith: yes there has been much alteration, much fabrication, much lies attributed to the prophet, while he did not say anything of that.

How the distortion occurs:
God chooses the prophet from among his people: being honest and trustworthy.. so that he may not change anything or add or subtract any words .. so the Prophet conveyed the Quran as it is revealed in spite of their mockery and objections .. and the Prophet did not give any compromise.

Muslims (like others) did much alterations to the hadith, but none could do anything like that to the Quran.

E.g. when the prophet is mentioned, we together with Abu Abd-Allah say: Salam to him; which we say also when any other prophet is mentioned as a matter of respect.
While Muslims, with misinterpretation, say: God's blessing (literally praying ) on the prophet, which started to be compulsory.

Another example: When we wanted to publish the book (The Universe and the Quran) in Arabic, the publisher, of his own accord, wrote the title as (The Universe and the Glorious Quran), so he added the word "Glorious", which made the title longer.

There are many such examples until the Bible reached you in this form:
Example:
One of the Pharisees asked Jesus: Righteous servant, will you tell me ..etc? Jesus answered: "Why do you call me 'righteous'? The righteous is only One that is God" So here he made a clear distinction between God the Lord and between himself the servant.
