I know they are entitled to healthcare and social assistance on student visas because there was demonstrations in Winnipeg over removing them from foreign students.

Are you serious? A foreign national should pay their own health insurance. Now maybe they do, or maybe it's included in their tuition, or maybe the argument is that while they live here, they pay GST, etc. I'd have to check on the details of this. But however it's arranged, when even many Canadians can't afford higher education, foreign nationals should pay their own way. I could support studying and even working visa-free, but maybe they could pay a slightly lower tax to take into account that we don't cover their health care but then pay a separate flat health care fee maybe adjusted if they're smokers, drinkers, etc. I'm all for more open borders, but they should pay their own way or it becomes unsustainable.

It seems to me that Trump was given no other choice. The system that has been in place releases captured families with a 'promise to appear' at an asylum or deportation hearing. Of course 80% never turn up. Meaning the entire system is a joke. The border is a joke. If there was a process that allowed for an orderly and summary deportation of entire families that have crossed the border illegally it would be done. But it is these parents who are putting their children in jeopardy by making dangerous cross desert runs, often transported by ruthless smuggling cartels.

What does the Gospel teach on the matter of unnecessarily separating kids from their parents? Heck, what does the Gospel teach about immigration? I remember love thy neighbour as thyself and the story of the good Samaritan.

The O.T. talks about cutting a kid in half ... sacrificing a son, too.

Genesis talks about daughters getting their father drunk and then raping him while he's passed out and a woman tearing the shirt off her adopted son's back. My things have changed.

I'd like to see a link to that because I can't imagine foreign nationals having access to social assistance unless they're refugees. Refugees don't need a student visa, so if you say they are student-visa holders, then they aren't refugees, and if they aren't refugees, then they shouldn't have access to social assistance unless some special situation where they are in the refugee application process, but then even a Canadian citizen in university can't apply for social assistance either as far as I know otherwise they'd all register for university and then apply for social assistance. I'm no expert here, but something seems off in all of that.

I'll say it again...

Nobody cares that the children of illegal Mexicans are being separated from their parents for a short spell. The Left actually secretly loves this story...to score political points against the Trump administration. But truly, at the heart of it all, no reasonable person really gives a rat about this situation.

The Pallister government is saving $3.1 million a year by cutting universal health coverage in September for international students. Students who are not Canadians would need to pay about $400 a year, or $1,200 for a family, to buy private health insurance.
International students are very concerned, and the university wants to allay their fears for at least one year, said Danakas.
The U of M is looking at a permanent solution, he said, "working with other post-secondary institutions.

The following provinces and territories offer health coverage to international students:
Alberta;
British Columbia;
Manitoba;
Newfoundland and Labrador;
Northwest Territories; and
Saskatchewan

I remember reading that one of the rationales for the Canadian Indian residential schools was that it helped to keep the parents in line desperate to see their children again.

You did, did you. Well how about sharing the link with us - otherwise, like Cliffy's Manitoba post, it is just more bullshit.

Trump is following Lincoln’s advice, “The best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it.”

I can't believe that. Tell me it's at least included in their tuition fees or something.

Damn, I'm for open borders and this ticks even me off. The whole point of allowing visa-free access is to reduce bureaucratic red tape but still with an expectation that they pay their own way on the free market.

By the way, does any Canadian government subsidize their tuition too?

Cripes this ticks me off. I'm all for letting people in, but unless they're convention refugees, there is no reason they should receive any taxpayer funding. the deal should be that we let them in and they support themselves. What government came up with the effing idea of subsidizing foreign students?

In fact, we've got it all backwards. We impose a bunch of bureaucratic red tape in the form of visas and then subsidize them once they're here when we should be making it easier for them to come but then let them pay their own way. No wonder our country's going bankrupt and no wonder so many Canadians are anti-immigrant and no wonder we often attract the wrong kind of immigrant.

Can we get some statistics about these innocent children in cages? How many cages? How many children? What is the location and status of the children's parents? To what degree should Canada and Canadians be sticking their noses into this matter? Like I've said before until we know ALL the facts we really don't know anything. If it's as serious as all the melo dramatists make out, it will probably reach a final conclusion on Nov. 3 2020 or Jan. 20, 2021 at the very latest.

Republicans frantically trying to get Trump to relent on the kidnapping.

Its all great to blame the democrats and congress - but the GOP is running the show and guess what? They don't actually know how to fix illegal immigration anymore than Trump knows.

All children of felons are separated from the felons at jail time, as is done everywhere all the time. Law breakers go to jail...the kids don't.

Whatever happened to your parents Hoid?
;)
They have been un hoid of for some time.
