Why leaving Canada makes sense for Alberta, and U.S. would likely welcome a new state

...after 4 years of Trudeau... It'll be a walk in the park compared to the US debt. (Per Capita)

You have great hope for our economic recovery and Truedows borrowing power.

So Alberta would be getting a check rather than a bill, . . . I can live with that solution.

You can't be serious! A cheque from Alberta? They have economic problems, cheques are a bad idea.

Best argument I've heard on this thread! That would put an end to Quebec's moaning! :) :)
You know the rest of Canada would gladly chip in to pay their debt. I promote that there never was a vote by the voters way back when the Provinces voted to become a single country. No vote because the voters would have rejected the move. Give a new slant to just how this place functions.

Hey!

It's a harder currency than the Canadian dollar!

Alberta will never join the USA. There has been talk though about BC and Alberta separating - together.

For years and years I have heard an occasional regurgitation of BC separation, AB separation, western province separation, blah blah blah. It resurfaces now and again and then sinks again.
I quit considering it to be a serious issue.

There's a match made in heaven. West Coast flakes and Alberta good 'ole boys. How long before they are trying to separate from each other? ... before the ink is dry on their declaration of independence.

Maybe the separatists can't get along with anybody. We call them "Sociopaths".

When Trudeau does his proposed Electoral reform, he may push Albertans out of the country.

He refuses a Canadian Referendum and will force it through no matter what. What he's trying to do is secure a Liberal Government for Years to come.

Do you think Albertans will sit back and take this??

First off, I'm living in Ontario..

Secondly, Alberta would most likely going the USA.. not forum it's own country.

Peter Zeihan says Alberta would be better off as 51st U.S. state - Calgary - CBC News

The Americans don't even know that they exist and they are parochial enough that they won't care, either. So Alberta goes from being one of the central players in the Canadian federation to being so marginal that they (literally) are not on any of their maps? The few Americans that are evern capable of wrapping teir brains around the concept of an "Alberta" will think of it as "oh yeah. The guys North of North Dakota."

Whatever. Go for it. They won't have any time for whining princesses either.

Oh yeah. It's been awhile since I've heard him praise the Third Reich.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Alberta- or any other province JOIN the Excited States of America? HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Only a LOON would want to join United States! Think of it- the state of California has more people than ALL of Canada!

Now picture a Cdn prime minister- one other than Our idiot Boy Justin- going to Washington to talk important stuff!

Our Pm arrives as a visiting HEAD OF STATE representing a country that does more business with Yankees than the rest of the world combined!

Fully FIFTEEN Yankee states get their ENTIRE electricity supply from Canada!

WE ARE ESSENTIAL to a healthy Yankee economy! We are the ONLY country Yankees trade with that have both higher taxes and more resources than United States!

WE ARE THE BEST DEAL YANKEES EVER HAD! Thanks to our pro western values and willingness to deal honestly with Yankees!

The ONLY fly in this happy political ointment is national security- which is being DELIBERATELY SCREWED UP by our Yankee hating silver spoon socialist idiot Boy Justin!

Our idiot Boy Justin knows all this and considers that collecting hordes of illegals and airplane loads of Muslim "new Canadians" is a great way to PISS OFF the Yankees that his Soviet Stalinist father Pierre has brain washed him into HATING!

Our idiot Boy thinks that he can safely screw with national security and NAFTA because there are so many Yankee jobs riding on its successful re-installation!

So- NOW- picture Alberta or any other former Cdn province joining United States- the newly elected state governor of Alberta would fly into Washington and NOBODY WOULD NOTICE! Because the Alberta governor would be merely one more governor lost in a CROWD of governors!

Cdns retain power, prestige and national influence by REMAINING AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY!

Canadian confederation became reality because it was recognized that a UNIFIED CANADA could speak with a louder and stronger voice than some little independent territories!

That same political logic RULES even after 150 years!

Separation of any Cdn province now or in the future????? DONT MAKE ME LAUGH!!!!!

And we still have not touched on how Cdns would feel about being FORCED to accept Yankee style health care!!!!

Oh my! How UTTERLY CLUELESS! NO VOTE for Canada when the provinces joined confederation? How clueless CAN YOU GET????

AS for Canada paying Quebec debt.........HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! That WOULD put us OVER the debt wall that Our idiot Boy Justin is rapidly approaching anyway!

And back when LIE-beral rat Jean Chretien was PM- Bloc Quebecois fools trolled through every major city in the world seeking LENDERS who would help Quebec with loans and debts and diplomatic recognition and etc!

And guess what: NOBODY wanted anything to do with a Republic of Quebec!

Too many debts!

Too much zenophobia revolving around language laws and PURE French stock!

And the BIG DEAL KILLER was the RABID socialist sentiments of Bloc leaders!

The Republic of Quebec was stillborn- strangled by a lack of cash and by socialist STUPIDITY!

The Bloc was trying to sell socialism right after the collapse of Soviet Union!

And when Soviet Union went down- so did Cuba since Cuban economy was propped up on Russian cash! Things got so bad in Cuba that Toronto (Red) Star newspaper actually wrote articles explaining to Cdns what sort of FOOD they should take with them on vacations to Cuba- the idea being to hand out FOOD as tips to Cuban waiters and bus boys since money was USELESS in the bankrupt and starving Cuban socialist economy!

WE all know that the Trudeau family consider now dead dictator Castro to be a close family friend- too bad Our idiot Boy has nothing to say about Cubans STARVING thanks to the FAILED socialist system that Our idiot Boy thinks would work FINE HERE! Just DO NOT ASK the idiot Boy why that same socialist system has caused starvation and desperation and virtual civil war in socialist haven Venezuela!

Our idiot Boy does not let food riots disturb his Sunny Ways and he is dedicated to socialism at any price! Pierre Trudeau told us in his book "two Innocents in Red China: Pierre admired "the genius of Chinese Chairman Mao in rushing thirty million people to the gallows" during the Great Leap Forward!

Socialists never let things like starvation, economic collapse, or wholesale MURDER interfere with THEIR GRAVY GRAB!

It's not like separatist ideas are new to Canada. The western Canada Concept has been around since I was a kid. The idea of the 4 western provinces forming their own republic is enticing to many who see eastern Canada as nothing but a huge drain on our wallets. There was also ideas bandied about of BC and AB joining the US and various other suggestions. Canada is a land of haves and have nots, as such there will always be resentment and talk of separation divided along east/west lines. Personally I would entertain the idea of separation under certain circumstances I'm just not sure if becoming an American would ever get the popularity required to move the idea forward. The republic of western Canada is the one most likely to get the best traction but even then, with all the easterners that now live in the west, even that might not get far.

Wasn't one idea called Cascadia which involved AB, BC and Washington/Oregon - something like that? Now that was intriguing concept at the time. With the current BC that wouldn't likely hold water now. But there was merit in the concept from what I remember. Just don't know if it would hold any water now.
