Too bad tankers are now double hulled and have GPS piloting systems or that might have meant something.

Well, that explains why there haven't been any tanker spills since the Exxon Valdez.

2007: Hebei Spirit off South Korea - 11,000 tonnes

2002: Prestige off Spain - 63,000 tonnes

1999: Erika off France - 20,000 tonnes

1996: Sea Empress off Wales, United Kingdom - 72,000 tonnes

1991: ABT Summer off Angola - 260,000 tonnes

1989: Khark 5 off Morocco - 70,000 tonnes

People in Victoria are much like Ottawa except fewer of them. They expect someone else to pay for everything.

I lived in Victoria for 5 years, some of them are a different breed for sure, but NOT all. It would be interesting to see how much Victorians contributed to the Humboldt disaster compared with the rest of the country. I think we might be pleasantly surprised, being that some of the folks there come across as very generous.

I gave you a greenie for writing that Victorians can be very generous people, JLM. I lived there too and can attest to that.

However, using the Broncos GoFundMe to make your point was not in the best of taste especially when comparing amounts given. The amount does not matter. That someone would care enough to show their support by donating does.

It's a pretty big chunk of the population and I would imagine like the rest of the country contributions from there probably ran the gamut from one dollar to a few thousand or more. :) It was taxslave's post I was responding to.

Good news for BCFerries.

SEagulls never flush medications down the toilet. ANyway that was just an excuse by the rich to not have to fork out for a proper sewage treatment plant.

We don't either but it's a bit ironic you mentioned it at this time - 4 or 5 days ago I put a bunch of expired prescriptions and other old medications (some from 15 years back) and put them in a paper bag and took them to the drug store for recycling. The woman I gave them to surprised me a little when she immediately opened the bag (I was wondering is she suspected a bomb) but no she finally just said she was checking for needles. I realized at that point, that remark was totally appropriate, given the age we are living in. Ooops I digress from the topic.

Even so, there are other comparisons you might have used to illustrate your point.

I agree, just not sure how it would fit in with taxslave's contention. Anyway it was a thought I had and I said it. No insult intended.

We're into the 21st century now Cliffy. It's amazing what these engineers and technicians can do, like even make things that don't leak. Improvements have actually been made on the old ways of the old days that you still yearn for.
