Kinder Morgan announces suspension of Trans Mountain expansion

TORONTO—Kinder Morgan said Sunday it is suspending all non-essential activities and related spending on its controversial Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project that would nearly triple the flow of oil from Canada’s oil sands to the Pacific Coast.

The company said its decision is based on the British Columbia government’s opposition to the project, which has also been the focus of sustained protests at Kinder Morgan’s marine terminal in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Kinder Morgan says it will consult with “various stakeholders” to try to reach an agreement by May 31 that might allow the project to proceed.

Is that good news ? Will the oil stop flowing or will CP And CN Rail simply add more oil trains ?

There is no agreement to be had.

Never has been never will be.

Take your pipeline east, young man.

oh and time to get to work to deconstruct the pipeline that is already , wrongly, in place.

The BC government action affects both pipeline and train transport.

It would be awesome if you were to familiarize yourself with at least one of the stories you feel compelled to comment on.

BC has to wake up. This needs to happen.
No it doesn't. That money should be spent on sustainable energy projects. So should Site C. Tar sands oil is crap. It is almost impossible to clean up in the water; lakes, streams or ocean. The increase in tanker traffic will jeopardize our coastal fisheries and pretty much destroy coastal peoples ability to make a living. It will put more people out of work than the jobs it will create. It is plain stupid to push this ancient technology.

Their are presently about 50 ocean going freighters in Vancouver harbour right now . How much effort is being paid toward stopping this threat to our coast ?

Re Site C approval I don't see how that stands when Alberta has threatened to boycott the power and selling them that power was a major factor in approving this nightmare mega project.\\

The approval process needs a redo given the new circumstances.

We will need the power for all those electric vehicles and the hundred or so thousand new immigrants arriving yearly .

Get yourself ready for the big spike in gas prices.

It's no coincidence that the Notley gvt proposed and tabled a bill to limit and/or increase the cost of a bbl to the Burnaby refinery and, if somehow by magic, Kinder Morgan announces that they are slowing down their process due to ~ you guessed it ~ permitting issues.

I would like to say that this was well scripted, but it's just so patently obvious

The deal isn't dead. It's KM's way of moving things forward.

KM will be "suspending all non-essential spending". Ho hum. Things are still proceeding. This is called the art of the deal. The government will be compelled to move it forward. It's also nice to see Alberta helping to get the deal finished.

Lookie yonder, comin'! Comin' down the KM line!
Lookie yonder, comin'! Comin' down the KM line!
It's Kinder Morgan black gold! Crossin' them border lines!

Mr Trudeau was pointing out today that this pipeline is in the "national interest"

Unlike the pipeline through, say, Quebec.

That one is apparently not in the "national interest".

Nobody getting in trouble for not wanting a pipeline except BC.

Why is BC being treated differently?

It's not, but you're a whiner.

But let's not change the subject. Why did your buddy post a lie? The pipeline wasn't suspended. Non-essential spending was.

Flossy lied. You do the same thing.

Sanctions no doubt. We will cut off thier Hockey.

More trains and more Lac Megantics, the dream of all lefties.

The dynamics of rail lines and small towns is well understood, sometimews things blow up but mostly they don,t and you make a buck, slight improvments can be made, signs paint etc, and the money flows unempeeded by disasterous little explosions, afterall the survivors have to work somewhere after all the tears and whineing about safety. If it didn,t blow up it would be useless in youur fukkin car!

It was determined that the Megantic tragidy wwas actually caused by careless smoking.

I am not sure what can be done here.

The Alberta Premier has to push for this pipeline or she will get clobbered at the polls.

The BC Premier has to push against it because he got elected by promising to do just that.

The Canadian PM has chosen to lie about the environmental danger posed here and let us be clear: there is no way to clean this shit up. If it spills in our ocean it will sink to the bottom and it will stay there until someone scraps it up.

We are at an impasse and if the Premier of BC allows this thing to happen he and his party will be history.

First you said that there was no agreement. Now you say that BC and the feds are at an impasse. If there was no agreement, then there would be no impasse.

But that's not the case. You cannot seem to make up your mind about the agreement that is, and is not, in place.

I think you should walk away. I don't know if you purposely lie, or are just messed up. 14 years old boys like you do get caught up often.
