There have been 18 US school shootings this year. Is it time to arm teachers?

If it is supposed to make sense shouldn't the students be the ones with the guns?

They are the ones being shot at.

Where are their handheld depression inducing brainwashers? Those kids have books.

And you can tell the difference between the boys and girls.

What happens when the kids leave school?

Won't future shooters just be waiting there?

If guns are going to protect students then students must have guns.

Don't be ridiculous.

This isn't 1964. Or even 1974.

I taught school for seven years.

If only. :)

I'm starting to wonder if Trump isn't starting to lose it. Maybe he should have an advisor for this sort of thing!

Let's go back to the good old days...

Now you are starting to make some sense, Cliffy!

Arming teachers makes sense to anybody who is in the business of selling guns.

"Oh look, we have cancer! Let's get more cancer!"

The 18 number that has been quoted is inflated. The source counts all incidents where a gun is involved anywhere near a school. Some of them have been somebody getting shot in front of an abandoned school or in a parking lot across the street. They have not been 18 mass shootings in schools this year. The number 18 has taken off but it is a misunderstood (deliberately) statistic.

So what? It is how many people have die that counts. Being nit picky won't bring them back.

I am saying if your are going to banter about statistics, use proper statistics, not just memes gotten from facebook.

Also not every incident of the 18 involved a death either or even somebody being shot ... just a gun discharged.

Any organisation that uses guns keeps track of every incident.

Or ought to.

Certainly the police and the military track them all.

The statistic is not incorrect. The interpretation of the statistic particularly by people throwing about facebook memes with that number on it is.

And for the record, I do think something should be done. I think arming teachers is a stupid idea. I don't see any reason not to have waiting lists and background checks when you purchase a gun or ammo. I also don't see why anybody needs an assault weapon. But I also don't think there is a rats chance of it being implemented in the USA.

But do we really have to misinterpret statistics to 'win' an argument?

Please describe the difference between a high power hunting rifle and an assault rifle ?
