Government is pretty good at the propaganda game too - and we've seen what oil does to adults

Agreed. It would be helpful if the vast majority of articles about the protest weren't so totally biased towards the protestors. Scant coverage is given to anything that does not show the protest in a sympathetic light. Truth is hard to find these days and even harder when the media refuse to do due diligence.

The Media needs to smartinthefukupfast. Down the drain they will go like a blockage in a septic system. Fecal matter klinging to the public sewars they are, nothing but gaping mouths. This christmas why not give shrunken head christmas tree ornaments of newspeople. Like the Wolf Blitzer Star out on the topest limb. An economical ecofriendly spare bulb is included.

"Pipeline protesters may have a tight grip on media coverage of the pipeline, but they have a demonstrably loose grip on the facts. The truth — as documented not by the company but by the federal court system is that pipeline approvals were not rushed, permits were not granted illegally, and tribal leaders were not excluded. These are proven facts upheld by two federal courts.

If only this side of the story were getting the same attention as the other side. Perhaps judges should start announcing their rulings by megaphone while standing beside a few media-attracting celebrities."

What the Dakota Access Pipeline Protesters Aren’t Telling You – InsideSources

"But these protests and lawsuits have a deeper agenda. Whether they succeed or fail, what these actions are really about is raising the cost of doing business in fossil fuels (which, after all, remains heavily subsidized by the government). If you’re going to do this, environmentalists are effectively saying, you’d better factor in the costs of lawsuits and law enforcement. By effectively making fossil fuel development more expensive, environmentalists shift the calculations in favor of the fuels they prefer, while at the same time making political waves that might turn against the pipeline. At a certain point, renewables begin to look like a bargain.

Unfortunately, there are some serious drawbacks to this strategy.

First are false consciousness and the specter of exploitation. Are environmentalists in coalition with Native Americans, or are they using them for their own purposes? What about when those purposes are crossed? For example, the short-term alternative to pipelines like DAPL is to put oil on trains and trucks. That’s worse for the climate, but better for the Native American lands. Would environmentalists support it? And if not, is their current solidarity with the Sioux real?

Second, protests aren’t pretty. People (cops, protesters, others) get angry. Tensions flare. And then the story becomes about the protest itself, rather than the underlying issue. This has already happened at Standing Rock, with more stories in circulation about attack dogs, crowd dispersal, and states of emergency than about Native American relics and land claims. In terms of tactics, there’s not much difference between Standing Rock and the Bundy clan’s silly protests at an Oregon wildlife refuge.

Except this isn’t a game. Real people—in this case, Native Americans who have endured centuries of oppression—are put in harm’s way and are, in a sense, pawns in a larger conflict. That’s already happened here, with 29 arrests and counting.

Third, what are the cops supposed to do? Allow the “occupation” to take place? Of course not; they have to do their jobs. And the costs of doing so aren’t picked up by Embridge Energy but by localities like the Morton County Sheriff’s Department in North Dakota. The police have thus far worked with protest leaders to minimize tensions. But ultimately, they have to do their jobs, which includes keeping roads open and allowing construction equipment to enter construction sites. It’s unreasonable to expect police simply to disobey court orders.

Finally, while “Shut It Down” has an appealing, Occupy-style flare to it, it’s an adolescent form of political action, achieving emotionally gratifying temporary victories that are quickly erased once attentions move on. (Once again, consider the parallels to the Bundys.) The point should be to shut down a system of petro-dependency and environmental insanity, not shut down construction sites for a few days."

DAPL's Worst Nightmare: Big Oil EXPOSED By Whistleblower

US Government Guilty of Treason and Domestic Terrorism at Standing Rock

The ever increasing police violence against Water Protectors at Standing Rock can only be described as treason against We The People. Morton County Sheriff’s Department, the US Federal Government, Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) and corporate mainstream media are all complicit and willing participants in this unconscionable brutality against unarmed Water Protectors.

It’s worth noting that President Obama could end these violations of the Lakota (Sioux) First Nation people with one phone call.

This is the first time in US history that without presidential and Congressional approval all branches of the military have been brought in to use aggressive force against unarmed civilians.

Morton County Sheriff’s Department are continuously LYING about their excessive use of violence. Last Sunday, they gave more false reports about their domestic terrorism and deliberate endangermentof the lives of hundreds of people.

Sunday nights confrontation at Backwater Bridge, was entirely the fault of police, who blockaded the road with army vehicles and barbed wire fencing which extended the width of the bridge. 400 people were gathered like lambs to the slaughter in whatappears to be a deliberate set-up by “law enforcement.”

What people need to understand is that the Sioux view this pipeline as an assault on their right to exist. It is part of the ongoing genocide of their people. Pipelines affect many tribes. Many are already being poisoned by oil spills and there are hundreds of spills every year. That is why 300 tribes came to Standing Rock to stand in solidarity with the Sioux. For them it is a do or die situation. Death is preferable to being slowly poisoned. 500 years of genocide ends here, one way or another.

Bullshyte. The Sioux aren't even united about this. This is the same bullshyte you claimed during the " idle no more" movement which fizzled out.

No, Cliffy.....what you need to understand is that when you make statements about genocide or how people are being poisoned by oil spills you need to back it up with facts - not your own opinions. 300 tribes you say.............prove it.

And just who are these protestors? We are led to believe that they are Standing Rock Sioux but Robert Fool Bear's own words about where the protestors are coming from gives me reason to think otherwise. Professional activists and protestors are the order of the day no matter the cause, no matter the country you will find them ready and willing to add their own bit of personal mayhem to the occasion.

I suspect were the truth ever to come out, we would find that the vast majority of those gathered there are not members of the local community.

Likely these so-called "protesters" are funded by the likes of the various Soros and Rockerfeller foundations who want nothing more than
to create chaos - I'm guessing....because

How do all these guys support themselves? If they're so busy protesting, how are they living? Where are they getting the money to feed, cloth and house themselves if someone isn't funding them? Huh? I'd like to know cause there are things I'd like to protest on a regular basis but that's not gonna pay my mortgage/rent or put food on the table. All I can say is it must be nice!!

Three years ago I took off my Navy uniform and told myself that I would never put it back on. I decided I wanted to live peacefully, and do what I could to allow the same for those around me. But now the day has come to put that kit back on, and head to Cannonball, North Dakota, and stand between the water protectors and the police, working illegally to protect the Energy Transfer Partners drilling of the Missouri River. Watching events unfold around the Dakota Access Pipeline has been mortifying and humiliating, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared.

If it sounds like I'm looking for public approval, or an ego boost, or just a bunch of likes and comments; I am. The notion of putting my uniform back on, just to face off with other uniformed Americans looking to do me harm is honestly terrifying. The actions of the police from around the country who have answered the call of ETP, and other private interests like them, to stop the people from demonstrating or disturbing progress is terrible. But the media and public silence on the gross violation of human rights, treaty rights, and our environment is what truly disturbs me.

I'm going to Cannonball with the group, Veterans Stand for Standing Rock, from December 4-7, and expect to be one of hundreds if not over a thousand veterans coming from all over the country to stand up to these storm trooper cowards. If you're a veteran, please join us, I don't have to remind you of the oath we took, and what it means to face a foreign and a domestic enemy. If you're not a vet, you're still welcome. Either way, our communities need to be sending more people to North Dakota to resist this blatant insult to a modern world.

If you can't make it, donate! Veterans Stand for Standing Rock has a gofundme link for those of us vets who are broke but want to help. Also, http://sacredstonecamp.org/, the camp itself housing a huge group of Native American tribes and other humans from the US and abroad, is in serious need of financial and material assets. You can help.

Please help.

We don't have a written history of this part of the world but this sort of vendetta probably goes on continuously into the past for the last 9,000 years. Contrary to the appologists out there, White Europeans did not have a monopoly on warring, genocidal violence, slavery, conquest and the First Nations are no better than us, occupy no higher moral high ground.

If this is in fact true, and I suspect it may well be, then there are people who should be charged with accessory to murder in any deaths that can be attributed to these spills. The problem is that there are people from the Feds to local governments and the courts that have their hands dirty because these crooked corporations are paying the greedy buggers off.

Could it be part of population reduction in addition to greed?
