But in one respect, I think Québec separation might be good for both sides.

It would give both sides a taste of reality and recognise how much they need one another.

Perhaps after sovereignty, both sides would reunite in some way quite voluntarily.

Besides, in many ways, Canada is separated already.

We have English discussion forums and French ones.

Je viens juste de revenir de Montréal hier, et la serveuse disait que plusieurs sinophones blancs mangent à son restaurant. Ma femme était un peu surprise d'apprendre ça, et moi aussi. C'est très rare qu'un anglo ou franco canadienne de souche au Québec ou en Ontario connaît une langue officieuse. C'est normalement un circuit binaire fermé entre l'anglais et le français dans ces deux provinces.

No doubt indigenous Quebecers would get their vite too. In fact at least one indigenous nation had its own parallel referendum to stay in Canada if Québec separated. Québec would be constitutionally bound to negotiate with its indigenous peoples, and I have no doubt that they would play the two sides in their own favour to see who could give them the best deal.
