So, if it's due to Notley, how come all of the US manufacturers that rely on selling capital equipment to oil and gas are seeing huge drops in sales worldwide? How come all the projects in Newfoundland are on hold?

It isn't 100% her fault but you look at Sask where they are seeing a huge influx of investment and development under the same global conditions and realize the big difference is government policy. Projects are not on hold here but cancelled completely. Meanwhile some of the big players have moved $31 billion that was supposed to be invested here to development projects in Kazakhstan.

She isn't the cause. She is just kicking the industry while it is down and fostering a business environment that makes businesses and investors to run away to other jurisdictions.

I can tell you that all the Oil&Gas projects that we are involved in in Sask are on hold. Millions in capital equipment that is indefinitely delayed. Exactly the same as the ones in Alberta.

For which products? Oil and gas is rather vague.

Oil and Gas is a term used by the people who manufacture the capital equipment, for a certain market segment. This market segment is down approx. 45% in the last two years (globally, not just Alberta). These are companies that make what is called capital equipment, used in the extraction and processing of oil and gas products. If you want examples of their products, you can google Baker Hughes, Schlumberger, ITT Industries, NOV, FMC, and the like.

It's tough for someone not involved in the business to understand the terminology.

If exploration and drilling are slow they do not have enough jobs for the existing equipment so it would be a waste to purchase more. Even when things pick up they will avoid major capital expenditure until the market reaches a point where demand is greater than supply which could be a long time.

They still get CCA depreciation if a piece sits in the yard.

A capital secure, established company can pick up or lease used equipment and grow the snot out of a company for cheaper.

Well, no. Just because mentalfloss overstates his case, that doesn't mean Dix is right.

There is nothing wrong with wind, solar, hydro, nuclear, bio, and certainly nothing wrong with the stuff we can't do yet, but will one day be possible, like fusion, temperature-differential, and ZPE.

Insisting that "alternate" energy sources (some of which have been around longer than petroleum and fossil) are somehow wrong is as extreme, and therefore as stupid, as insisting that oil and coal are wrong.

I think while many forms of energy will assist the use of gas and oil, very few will be an actual replacement for them. Wind and solar are not ALWAYS there when you need them. Wind also has the added feature of noise pollution!
