Former Sergeant-in-Arms Kevin Vickers was the first to react when a protester, wearing a 'Justice for the Craigavon Two' t-shirt, interrupted an event in Grangegorman Military Cemetery this morning to commemorate the British soldiers who died in 1916.

The male protester stood up during a wreath laying ceremony before shouting "this is an insult".

But Mr Vickers, who was attending the event, quickly tackled the man and physically moved him away.

I ain't sure tackling a protestor is the right thing to do (not enough facts in the OP), but with 30 years in the RCMP and still strong and fit, I'm pretty sure Ambassador Vickers can handle a protestor with minimum danger to himself or the knucklehead.

Seems to me Vickars has become a little too full of himself. He's been reading his press clippings and figures he has an image to live up to.

First of all he is an ambassador, a representative and a guest in Ireland.. not a security operative, not an Irish policeman, who likely would have diffused the situation quietly.. led the man away.. as he had every appearance of being an annoying but peaceful protester.

And then Vickars would NOT have made such a complete A$$ of himself before the world's media.. and embarrassed the country he's supposed to represent.

If the protester had been a Canadian, I feel that the Ambassador would have been within his right to interfere .....
But interference in Irish security is not his mandate...
