Why didn’t Trudeau want to link the Fort Mac fire to climate change?

It only shortens time, it doesn't eliminate it. More times than not it is waiting for input by a human on a keyboard so it has something to figure out.

Canada wildfire: The climate change connection to the Fort McMurray ‘firestorm’

Climate change has contributed towards the “hellish” wildfire that is rampaging through Alberta, Canada, experts have said.

The area of blaze, described as a “firestorm”, is now larger than Hong Kong and has left a trail of destruction in its wake, forcing 80,000 residents to flee their homes.

Numerous scientists have said a “perfect storm” of factors, including climate change and El Niño, caused an event which is likely to be remembered as one of the worst natural disasters in Canadian history.

Era of mega-fires started in the 1980s and Fort McMurray is not the end

The era of the mega-fire began in the late 1980s and unfortunately it did not peak in Fort McMurray last week.

There are more – and probably bigger fires to come.

Mega-fires are wildfires that are so intense, so fast moving and so large they are impossible to stop, even by the best-trained suppression crews.

Once rare events, they have now become common largely because of climate change and because effective wildfire suppression over decades has caused fuel to build up in the forests.

The people of Fort McMurray are the latest to experience the terror of seeing a mega-fire coming. The residents of Slave Lake, Alta., went through that in 2011, as did the people in Kelowna, B.C., in 2003, when the Okanagan Mountain Park fire destroyed 239 homes.

Those in Fort St. John, in northeast B.C., can be forgiven for wondering if they might be next, with heavy smoke drifting over the Peace River region this week as crews struggle to bring several fires under control.

A 2011 global assessment of the changing nature of wildfire by the United Nations states that China’s Great Black Dragon Fire in 1987 “perhaps marks the beginning of the mega fire phenomenon in the modern era.”

That fire killed over 200 people and burned 1.2 million hectares.

“In many parts of the world, the number of large wildfires has been increasing at an alarming rate,” states the UN paper. “These extraordinary conflagrations are unprecedented in the modern era for their deep and long-lasting social, economic, and environmental impacts.”

I don't really see a significance of what Trudeau linked the Fort Mac Fire to. Who cares at this point what contributed to it? It happened, now everyone's concern should just be concentrated on putting things right (as close as possible) At that juncture causes can be considered but only to the point of trying to avoid a similar tragedy in future. Right now Justin has a full time job just transferring funds to those in need!

He deferred that job to the Red Cross.

Do you remember the last great catastrophe caused by AGW. It was the California drought.. 4 years in duration.. that became the great final reckoning of Global Warming.. the harbinger of all that was to come.

Well, if you haven't heard, and that's not surprising since its barely made the mainstream news.. it's over.. the reservoirs are filled, there have been floods.. it was a cyclical event. It's happened before and it'll happen again based on Pacific weather patterns.

But the media has moved on to the next great sign of the end times.. the Fort McMurray fire.. but that's not going to last 4 years.. so they are busy looking for something else.

Just a lot of talk by the Libs.

Goodale is a useless idiot.

Where is the infrastructure money, when is it coming out ? These scum were screaming when the Conservatives were in power asking for infrastructure spending but now where are these Liberal scum?

The useless PM should have visited some of the evacuation places like Lac le Biche, he didn't have to go to Ft Mc to show his support and concern, but he is a useless pos and is interested in seeing the Oil Sands shut down.
