Re: Oil tumbles below $28 per barrel

It would be 30% cheaper if Ontario wasn't a discount gutter wh0re.
You spelled Quebec wrong. Ontario comes in a distant 2nd.

Does the big bucket of KFC chicken now cost more or
less than a barrel of oil? I'm not sure, but its gotta be
close....

Oh, one less X-File: KFC Menu, Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada
They are using chicks instead of chickens so it weighs less. Now is it such a good deal?

Re: Alberta's coal phase-out: How the province plans to kick carbon to the curb

Ideally you want to get rid of coal for environmental (and health related) reasons, but it all depends on how you want to achieve emissions reductions for your jurisdiction.

Alberta coal burns pretty clean as it has a low sulfur content and with the scrubbers, doesn't emit that much GG's. Unfortunately, you'll never hear that from an NDPers mouth. Simply how "coal is bad". Some coal is bad - ours is not.

Oil giant Husky lays off hundreds at Calgary

Oil giant Husky lays off hundreds at Calgary

Canadian energy giant Husky has announced new layoffs as oil prices continue to slide.

Husky Energy issued pink slips to 400 people at their downtown Calgary office on Tuesday, the same day the price of oil fell below US$28 a barrel – a price not seen in nearly 13 years.

The layoffs come just a few months after Husky cut 1,400 positions. Many of those jobs were contractor positions, but approximately 300 were full-time.

In a statement to CTV News, Husky spokesperson Mel Duvall said that the decision to cut staff was not taken lightly.

“These are difficult decisions and we will continue to take the steps necessary to ensure the company’s resilience through this cycle and beyond.”

Duvall also said that while they are not providing specific numbers, “the staff reductions were across the company’s operations.”

Translation: Our real shareholders are demanding profit be kept at the maximum. Those houses should be 4 and more bedrooms, time for bed and breakfast to expand to serving beer and cancelling the 'quiet hours'. Set the price after you know what the possible income will be.

Suicide prevention hot-lines would be hiring homeless as they are the experts on how to carry on when all hope is lost

Oil below $27.50 this morning- lowest in years!

Canada isn't the only country hurting because of low oil prices.. Russia, Venezuela, and many others..

I think it time to start blowing up some of Saudi Arabia's oil infustructure to cause some instability and get those prices up to $110 a barrel. ;)

If Oilbertians are lucky the government will follow suit and cut overhead to match the drop in revenue.

He often comes up with violence as being the only solution in his world. Sad to know he acts those fantasies out on occasions, even sadder to be a victim of it. Even our PM isn't safe from his mouth. Send him to Russia and yell rape, they have a final solution for creeps like him.

His rating at home and in the world are going up rather than down. It has clearly driven you and a few others insane, not that it was a long journey for you.

... And those solar & wind facilities are failing due to the cessation of subsidies.

Makes one think about it, eh?

Yes we wouldn't want to make the same mistake that has been made with the oil industry.

G20 countries are spending $452 billion US a year subsidizing their fossil fuel industries and are undermining the world's effort to combat climate change in the process, according to a new international report by an environmental advocacy group.

Oil price slides to $26 a barrel and stock markets follow crude lower

Oil price slides to $26 a barrel and stock markets follow crude lower

The price of a barrel of North America's oil benchmark dropped to a new low just above $26 US on Thursday as the world economy can't seem to shake off its gloomy mood.

WTI was off 57 cents to 26.86 US. Earlier, it had dipped as low as $26.19. That's the lowest price on record since 2003.

Oil wasn't the only problem, however. The TSX sold off 126 points to 12,059 within minutes of opening. The Dow Jones in New York fared even worse, down 200 points to 15,712.

Gold, which tends to rally when investors sour on everything else, did well, up $38 to $1233 an ounce — above $1,200 an ounce for the first time in almost a year.

"Gold's status as the ultimate safe haven asset has well and truly been confirmed, yet again," said Fawad Razaqzada, an analyst at Forex.com.

Europe got off to a torrid start, with Britain's FTSE 100 down 2.3 per cent, Germany's DAX 2.4 per cent lower, France's CAC 40 down 2.8 per cent and U.S. futures also pointing to 1 per cent drop for Wall Street later. Sweden's crown and government bond yields were sent tumbling as its central bank delivered a surprise cut to its already deeply negative interest rates.

Sweet! So much extra cash in my wallet!

I grinned at my less that $20 fill up at the pump... and barely looked at my $200 heating oil bill for two months. Sweet!

It's certainly good for oil importing nations and Saudi Arabia who are going to soon have a monopoly on the market.

Don't be foolish. When prices climb the wells start pumping again. OPEC is KAPUT!
