There's a more detailed and complete definition. Private ownership of what? To what end? And how is profit gained? What is profit for? All these things make a complete definition of what capitalism is.

Who says bartering isn't being done under capitalism? Funny, I know all kinds of people who barter for things. While it may not be very public, it does go on. I know a painter who barters with all sorts of people for the things she needs; a mechanic fixes her vehicle and in turn she paints whatever he & his wife need done in their house. A retired teacher barters her services for tutoring for whatever it is she requires. My dad who is a retired barber, will cut his neighbours hair in turn the neighbour cuts his lawn in the summer time. (My dad will be 90 in January) So it does go on - not necessarily in the "light of day" so to speak.
