Merriam-Webster's definition is

"an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market"

and from Investopedia:
"
DEFINITION OF 'CAPITALISM'
A system of economics based on the private ownership of capital and production inputs, and on the production of goods and services for profit. The production of goods and services is based on supply and demand in the general market (market economy), rather than through central planning (planned economy). Capitalism is generally characterized by competition between producers. Other facets, such as the participation of government in production and regulation, vary across models of capitalism."

sounds like capitalism has corrupted human nature to its core
Nope. It is a matter of survival to try and acquire more than one needs at any particular moment because it is good for their future survival. That is what is meant by the adage about "saving for a rainy day".
Would you feel more comfortable with just enough food to survive till the end of the day or having enough food for the day as well as the food for the next day?

A Mouse Once Bit My Sister
A financial benefit resulting from gaining more than expending.

Tangible benefit can occur outside the realm of a fiscal measure.

Further, how much benefit is measured by the participants within that transaction.. One individual may assess a greater value to a good or service more so than another person. This assessment has a real impact on the tangible value of that item or service

Probably mostly.
in a capitalist society as a necessity for survival.
That comment is irrational and has no basis in reality.

You have a point or two.

the bourgeoisie like accumulating the surplus profits created by the working class
And the working class seems to like profits resulting from investments. So?

i know capitalism doesn't work. that's what i know.

Which appears to be very little. :) :) I think capitalism works very well, just ask the ten richest people in the world. "Nothing succeeds like success" :) :) :)

why does "corruption" even exist and what is its relationship to survival?

The more corrupt you are the greater the chance you won't survive long. :) :) :) :)

oh capitalism works the greatest for the tiny minority of wealthy elites. not so much for the rest of the population.
