Suddenly, the world's become a frightening place for tourists writes MAX HASTINGS | Daily Mail Online
From what I could gather from the news tonight, although it's a good possibility, it's not 100% proven yet!
The British have intelligence which states that this disaster was caused by a bomb. MI5 listened in to "chatter" from ISIS terrorists on the Sinai Peninsula.
It emerged that British spies were due to interrogate Egyptian baggage handlers after intercepted intelligence pointed to an ISIS mole smuggling a bomb into the hold of the doomed Russian jet.
MI5 heard 'chatter' from extremists in the Sinai Peninsula which revealed there is a 'high probability' the disaster was caused by an explosion on board.
Spies also believe a 'flash' in the sky when the plane came down and the lack of a distress signal points to a bomb so attention is now being focussed on baggage handlers, a Downing Street source told MailOnline.
Not only that, but a British passenger plane with 189 passengers on board had to avoid a military missile when landing at Sharm el-Sheikh airport two months ago.
A Thomson flight with 189 passengers on board had to avoid a military missile when landing at Sharm el-Sheikh airport just over two months ago.
According to one report, the missile came within 1000 feet of the flight packed with British holidaymakers.
Both the airline and the Department for Transport confirmed that an incident had taken place on August 23.
A spokesman for the DfT said: “We investigated the reported incident at the time and concluded that it was not a targeted attack and was likely to be connected to routine exercises being conducted by the Egyptian military in the area at the time.”
The Daily Mail, quoting an unnamed source, said the pilot had to veer left to avoid the missile.
A spokesman for Thomson added: “Upon landing into Sharm el-Sheikh, an initial assessment was conducted and the event was immediately reported to the UK Department for Transport (DfT) in line with established protocol.
“The DfT conducted a full investigation in conjunction with other UK Government experts.
“After reviewing the details of the case, the investigation concluded that there was no cause for concern and it was safe to continue our flying programme to Sharm el-Sheikh.”

By the way, what is it with the current fad - one of those weird new fads that the right-on Left follow every few years - of pronouncing foreign placenames and people's names with a foreign accent?
It used to be the case that foreign placenames and people's names read by TV newsreaders were just pronounced in those newsreaders' accents and everything was just..... well, normal and sane.
But, in these whacky times we live in, newsreaders now seem to prefer pronouncing placenames in foreign accents, for some reason. I don't know why they do it. Maybe they feel it is just a trendy Lefty thing to do, and makes them appear clever and superior, when in fact it just makes them look ridiculous.
I only have to watch ITV News, BBC News or Sky News for ten minutes before Christine Lagarde's name is mentioned in a strong French accent. It's got even more ridiculous the last few days when some dopey mare on Sky News says "Sharm el-Sheikh." She reads her report in her normal accent - which sounds like a Hull accent - but whenever she says "Sharm el-Sheikh" she says it in a strong Arabic accent with the guttural sound on the end, and it makes her sound like an ISIS terrorist. She doesn't realise just how ridicullous she sounds.
