Personally doesn't bother me but if you are one of those people who grew up on a farm or in a rural area of the country, you might be concerned.

TPP would allow milk from cows receiving hormones into Canada

As dairy imports from the United States appear set to increase under the terms of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, Canadian consumers concerned about drinking milk from cows receiving hormones will need to read their labels more carefully.

In the agreement in principle reached Oct. 5, Canada conceded an additional 3.25 per cent of its dairy market to imports from the 11 other Pacific Rim countries signing on, most notably the U.S., New Zealand and Australia.

That amount may not seem significant, but until recently, Canada's supply-managed dairy sector offered only the stingiest of tariff-free market access to its trading partners, on specific terms — such as the cheese deal struck with the European Union in 2013.

Small levels of imports are possible while maintaining supply management, if they are managed carefully. The ultimate impact of the TPP on the dairy industry might depend on details not yet available on what kinds of products — and in what amounts — make up that 3.25 per cent.

Unique to the TPP is the prospect of fluid milk crossing the border from the U.S. The terms of the agreement made public earlier this month specify that 85 per cent of fluid milk imports must be processed in Canada before hitting store shelves.

At the initial briefing offered to journalists, TPP negotiators said Canadian health and safety regulations

It will be a while if ever this thing gets off the ground and anything against
supply management I am not in favor of we need to strengthen agriculture
not impair it. Food prices are too low now

WTF are you talking about Grumpy? Inflation on food prices has been higher than anything else for a decade. I'm guessing you believe that because you are a food producer and want as much money as possible and I can understand that but it just isn't true. Families are spending a much larger portion of their income on food and that is on crappy processed food. f you want good healthy food it costs even more.

There are little dairy co-ops all over Quebec that keep things like traditional cheeses alive. We could learn a thing or two about keeping food local from there.

I'm no expert on this subject but there must be some science on this.

Too lazy to dig it up myself right now.

As much as added hormones to make animals grow bigger faster resulting in humans growing bigger faster are a bad thing there is a lot to be concerned about regarding TPP....

It is likely the Liberal government under Justin Trudeau will like the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) almost as much as the Conservatives.

So it’s probably a waste of time and energy to ask that we dump the whole TPP thing, but there may be a small possibility of deleting the hated ISDS (Investor to State Dispute Settlement) provisions.

As outlined in Maude Barlow’s Blog below Canada laws and regulations, especially those protecting the environment and health of Canadians, will be opened to actions brought against the government of Canada and Canadian taxpayers by the corporations of 17 nations, including the notoriously corrupt Malaysia.

Those legal actions will not be formal suits adjudicated in Canadian courts. These cases will be heard in secret by a panel of three lawyers who specialize in international trade procedures. Their decisions are reached, sometimes amounting to fines of hundred of millions of dollars, without revealing any of the proceedings and there is no appeal of their decisions.

Getting rid of the ISDS sections of the TPP is something well worth our time and energy to protect our healthcare, environment, our economy.

Yeah. Unnatural pricing is a weird critter. Healthy foods cost gobs more than processed foods. You just have to love our gov'ts for subsidising the processing plants.
