Besides the NDP losing much of it's support to the Liberals, I think a lot of the more progressive conservatives voted Liberal this election because they just can't stand the Reform and Alliance influence in the CPC anymore. The CPC as a party I think got a little too far to the right for the progessives to be comfortable with them.

As I've said before, this happened because lever started to lean in favour of one of the progressive parties and that's what people strategically went with to defeat Harper.

And it's Harper's own fault really.

There was no reason he had to be divisive on the niqab or with refugees, for instance.

Canada does not want social conservatism and that's why they will pick one of the other two parties if Conservatives try that tactic again.

So just to be clear about what "Canada wants", Justine has over 50% of the popular vote? I recall arguments that Harper did not and therefore was not speaking for Canadians. So Justine has 50+? Just checked 39.7% wanted a Lieberal government. That means over 60% didn't. By your previous logic, this means this result is not what Canadian's want. Obviously Justine's first reform will be proportional representation? He did promise it at one point.

Perhaps more of his genes came from his mother!
I don't know. I just wonder if he truly realizes the depth and gravity of the position. When his dad was PM he was like a rock star...and his mom was doing rock stars. I just hope he doesn't take it too lightly because he does seem a little bit flighty

We don't have the percentage vote based on these seat counts but it's certainly more than Harper's majority.

One other thing to consider is that both NDP and Liberal are progressive, and so that was my point and not that it is exclusive to the Liberal party.

Canadians will not buy good economic policy at the cost of social conservatism.

We place higher value on diversity and inclusiveness over $$$

And on your last point on proportional representation, I agree with JLM that this will not be an easy movement for the Liberals. Maybe the NDP, but this is one of the points I will gladly dole out the criticism of Trudeau if they are laggards on it.

Well Congratulations Prime Minister Trudeau.

Well Trudeau won a majority, Ontario Liberals have a bigger debt load than Greece, now it's Canada's turn to end up like Greece as a nation.

In 4 years austerity, because we all know.... Budgets will balance themselves.

The Republicans would airlift you an emergency shipment of butthurt lotion and crying towels, but they don't know Canada exists.

Sorry.
