Number 9 really surprised me.......

In an age where kids can access porn from the machines they carry in their pockets, banning books seems like an antiquated means of information control. But that doesn’t keep people from trying.

Every year hundreds of books in schools and libraries are “challenged” around the United States, mostly by parents trying to keep their kids from coming across explicit material or values they disagree with. These complaints are tracked by the American Library Association’s Office of Intellectual Freedom (OIF), which compiles an annual list of the most challenged books in the US.

To that end, here are the OIF’s top ten most-challenged books:

Banned Books Week: These are the top 10 books Americans tried to ban last year - Quartz

9) A Stolen Life (2011), by Jaycee Dugard

Synopsis: Dugard’s memoir about her experience after being kidnapped at 11 and held captive for the next 18 years.

Reasons for challenge: Drugs/alcohol/smoking, offensive language, sexually explicit.

Status: The book was removed from 7th-grade classroom libraries and taken off an elective reading list in Michigan’s Northview public middle school system.

If these are their criteria for banning books, the bible should be banned also.

Impressive. The reasons for banning these books are given as “Anti-family,” cultural insensitivity, drugs/alcohol/smoking, gambling, offensive language, political viewpoint (like banning books isn't a political thing?), homosexuality, religious viewpoints (yet the first book in the list says it was taken off the reading list because it was "“viewed as anti-Christian"), explicit sexuallity, “controversial issues”, nudity, mentions of date rape and masturbation (like they are related?). Only one book was banned with violence being one of the reasons.
So the USA authorities have more against nudity, masturbation, anti-Christian views and the like than it has against murder, war, etc...... still. Pretty sad.
As far as kids go, the huge majority of them become very curious when they find out something has been banned or stuck in a taboo list.

So.... the book really wasn't BANNED... it was taken off the elective reading list.

You libs are in a permanent state of exaggerated butthurt.

Post trimmed by me.

These books aren't banned.

The only people that are REALLY trying to ban things are left leaning liberals here in the US. And by that I mean REALLY TRYING TO BAN literature, news, etc.

So the USA authorities have more against nudity, masturbation, anti-Christian views and the like than it has against murder, war, etc...... still. Pretty sad.

Actually No.. we're pretty F*ed up when it comes to nudity, sex, and beating the bishop. That is one of the reasons why Canadians come to Las Vegas, LA, New York City, Miami etc by the tens of thousands each year.

Anti-Christian? Bah.... what care does anyone have of their views. They are irrelevant when it comes to this topic. Christians are the weakest and easiest targets in the US which is why they are targeted.

No worries, Eagle. I'm just picking on your "authority" types.

I gotcha. Often times the PC crowd will simply lie or embellish to gather attention. None of these books are banned, they were just removed from reading lists or libraries for whatever reason. Libtards tend to get all bent when books that they wrote, or a favorite author of theirs are not made mandatory reading or removed from a selective reading list. They fly off the handle and say they are banned.

Same with some creep who gets his art funding discontinued... they'll call it censorship.

That's the "hidden agenda" thing behind the "false indignation".

15 buildings destroyed after book burning sparks wildfire

Thursday, March 23, 2017, 11:23 AM - About 15 structures have been burned or badly damaged in Florida's Nassau County, in a wildfire authorities say was sparked by burning books.

Some 150 people were forced to flee the flames, which began Wednesday and grew to encompass around 160 hectares by the evening due to gusty winds. The blaze was 65 per cent contained as of Thursday morning, due to the efforts of 200 firefighters and 17 pieces of equipment.

News4Jax reports several firefighters suffered minor injuries, and the operator of one forestry tractor was forced to flee when the flames overtook the vehicle, though the man was unharmed.

The Florida Forest Service said the fire was sparked by a homeowner burning paperback books, and the service reminded the public that burning household waste is illegal in Florida.
