Have you ever been to Mississauga on a Friday night ? Peaceful my eye .
Can a white man drink peacefully on a Friday night in Prince Rupert ? Hardly .
How about in the Quebec can a white English only person get equal treatment ?
Your living in a dream country not reality >
LOl, I am an English speaking Quebecer and yes, many times I get better treatment at the hands of French speaking Quebecers. I recently had a birthday party and Out of 20 people, I had 3 French speaking friends, 10 bilingual persons, including myself, and 5 mostly English speakers......most of whom understood some of the other language.

It seems that by living in Quebec, I live in the best place in Canada??? I hardly think so. I also don't expect to get shot in a theatre, restaurant, at the gym or in the grocery store. Oh and I am white, and English as well as a proud Quebecer. Or Quebecois.

... and the gun crime rate in Mississauga is? ___________________

I personally knew someone who commited a gun crime in Mississauga for which he was a guest of Her Majesty for two years less a day.

He is white from an UPPER Middle Class background (parents are professionals), Scottish origin, well educated with a promising sales job ... his weapon was a twelve bore shotgun.
Geez and here in Quebec, I have only heard of those who had accidents or committed suicide with guns in this area. I am sure in the bigger cities there will always be the pimps, drug lords, and petty crimnals who can only get what they want through a gun. Is this a reason to make it easier for them to acquire them?? Nah, I don't thinks so.

we already have oppressive gun laws in Canada. We currently have criminals running around committing all kinds of crimes with handguns but a law abiding taxpayer has to follow all kinds of stupid rules just to take a gun to the range. What we need is enforcement of existing laws on criminals and relaxing of rules on honest people."

So, in order to satisfy your feeling of being put upon, we loosen the gun laws, so more crooks, killer, pimps, burglars can have even more access to guns?? Rather short sighted I would say. You do realize that more of those I listed would take advantage of the easier access to guns than those with no interest in being vigilantes or gunslingers?? I like much more than half of Canada's population are simply not interested in that type of life.

What he did was shoot the windows out of the parent's house of an ex. that he had been stalking in a jealous rage. Fortunately, there was a big rack of long guns at home and he was able to resolve his personal crisis using the good ole USA style.

He was Canadian, it was in Canada, and he was doing it Canadian style. OWN IT.

.... Then you pass a bunch of gun control laws. 35 yrs later, you claimed that they worked

. And the only evidence you have to offer is the stats gathered in other countries. You go on and on about how bad the USA is and how great the UK is.

But what about Canadian data, where is the evidence that the Canadian gun laws helped Canada?

Bluebyrd, if you work in the medical community, then you should know that doctors are not allowed to declare that a patient is cured based on reports from other patients, the doctors actually have to get off their butts and perform the correct tests and as the correct questions to determine if their patient has been cured.
Yup I do say so. If we had as many homicides per 100,000 as the US, or those who are at war, or those who do not live under a democracy, or in a land with very little law whatever, perhaps, I would consider purchasing a gun. For a bit (a very small amount of time), I considered keeping a lovely pistol in the collection of guns, that belonged to my dad, in the end, I gave iit to a friend who did target shooting. He was ecxstatic. It would have been wasted on me.

He was Canadian, it was in Canada, and he was doing it Canadian style. OWN IT.
Actually, it was more in the style of the US......Not many Canadian men are such twits. We have the occasional dim=witted but thank goodness few are able to acquire a gun.

He was Canadian...it was in Canada, and he went to a Canadian prison... and therefor it was Canadian style. It was all guns blazing, maple syrup running, Canadian style freak out. Own It.

Gun crime around here consists of a drunk fella stumbling down to the ferry landing and shooting the overhead lamps with his 303 or 30-30 (I forget which). He got 3 of them before the ferry driver landed and talked to him.
There is the occasional battle with fists.
Most people around here, even when drunk, are peaceful.
I suppose some Canadian cities have areas that resemble US ones, but most of Canada is pretty damned peaceful. If the USA wants to keep putting business over people and letting some build guns that are useless for anything but shooting people, don't confuse it with Canada.

PGW in Winterpeg makes big-bore, high-accuracy rifles, a few other manufacturers make firearms parts, like actions, barrels, etc. and there is Martini Gunmakers who make bolt-action and slingshot rifles. And then there is Dlask Arms here in BC. They build parts for AR-15 type weapons and I think they also make 1911 style Colt .45s. None of the above are cheap.
I have no idea how many smiths around that could build something custom and don't want to research. But my point is that in spite of having firearms manufacturers here, they do not seem to build the cheap knockoffs that thugs tend to buy for shooting people. And it seems only the criminally intent buy stolen guns for that.
As I keep pointing out, the USA is the USA and Canada is Canada; quite different and continuing to relate the two in this matter is silly.

And because of Polytechnique, Allan Rock and his dimwitted, knee-jerking friends developed a plan that resulted in criminalizing loads of hunters, ranchers, and target shooters, did nothing to curb firearm violence (in fact the rate went UP), and generally cost Canadians a couple billion unnecessarily.

Nonsense. Most of our crooks use quality hardware. Like that guy who killed the two TV reporters last week. He used a Glock, Austria's finest.

A bow has killed more people than the firearm. No permits required to buy one. No minimum mandatory sentence for making a bow.

No we enforce the gun laws we already have. Not invent more laws that only law abiding citizens will pay attention to anyhow and pay for.
