Not sure point you are trying to make there but whatever.

If you think the UCCB is a good idea for children, then good for you.

I will enjoy the boost to my Scotch and Videogames fund and will accept proposals to pool that with anyone else's UCCB so we can get some online tournaments going.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about the C.C.B. Every family that gets it should benefit at least a buck or two and the full amount for the destitute. What's wrong with that? If it's the timing re the upcoming election...............what better time for a gov't to introduce it?

Northern Ontario,
If you read the OP carefully, only a rabid ideologue would try and figure out which riding are set to receive the most money based on last election result....I mean...this is nit picking at it's worst...
The Harper hate is strong in that one......ridiculously.....

It would be a grand idea......
if a liberal or Ndp had done it don't you know....

UCCB cheques won't stimulate economy much, CIBC says

Canadian families may have big plans for the sudden influx of backdated Universal Child Care Benefit cheques that Ottawa mailed out this week, but there's little evidence that the economy as a whole is going to benefit from them, one of Canada's biggest banks said Friday.

In a commentary Friday, CIBC's chief economist Avery Shenfeld attempted to gauge the impact of the thousands of cheques and direct deposit that Canadian parents received this week, worth $160 per month for every child under age six, and $60 per month for every child between the ages of 6 and 17, backdated to January.

The pre-election goodie bag means a cash windfall for parents — at least a temporary one that lasts only until tax time. Based on Shenfeld's crunching of the numbers, however, the impact on Canada's economy might be minimal.

"It all comes down to how short-sighted households are about their finances," Shenfeld said. That's economist-speak for saying it depends what Canadians do with their sudden cash infusions.

This is just a fancy way of saying that UCCB is a dumb trick.

I wouldn't expect it to make a huge difference to economy but it will make a measureable difference to the modest percentage of families that are destitute.

Making it taxable means most people won't know exactly how much they have to pay back in April and that will likely lead to overspending.

Those who need the money won't be paying back f-ck all. For you this is all about daycare and nothing more. It's selfishness on your part and nothing more. I told you kids are expensive but you flipped it off but now you are feeling the pinch I see.

Easier than saying large female American?

And whose problem would that be? It's hard to guard against stupidity!

It is unfair. Gifts from the government should apply to everyone equally. Like pensions.

But then we might get taxed equally paying it back! The "government doesn't give gifts, we do. :)

$720 is a paltry number to begin with.

That money would have been better off in developing infrastructure.

It's deveping Krupp of Essen bridgework infrastructure in my twelve year old's mouth.

Every nickel of it has gone into that project.
