I don't see where they have fooled anyone. It was plain from the start this money will be taxable. It is possible some fools fooled themselves into believing it was free money.

WElfare?

Actually sometimes there is such a thing as free money. We get living out allowance at work. $ 125/day non taxable.I live just far enough from the jobsite to qualify and just close enough to drive every day.

OMG, they ALL FREAKING DO THAT!!!!!!!

Every single one of them. The Conservatives, the Liberals, the NDP.....hell, even the Green Party would do it if they ever had a shot at ruling status!

They're politicians looking to get re-elected. It's what they do.....and if more people would stop with the foolish partisan b.s. they both buy into and regurgitate, it may actually be possible to hold their feet to fire and make them be more accountable.

Please stop acting like you're somehow 'above it all', okay, you're not Ghandi.

Maybe it's time to let the people decide how the money is to be spent, of course there's a small fraction who may squander it but I'm guessing the majority will put it to good use, which is more than I can say for Gov't bureaucrats 3 months before an election.

or one month before the end of a fiscal year.

(which is in part why we will someday make Greece look like Canada-light)

Cliffy would have preferred a comma there^

e.g., Please stop acting like you're somehow 'above it all', okay, you're not, Ghandi.

Northern Ontario,
Why do some people think it's unfair that couples in a higher tax bracket will have to pay more of it back than people in a low tax bracket huh?

I think if you were to check, many of the people who think that way are those in a higher tax bracket! :) :)

No, it's not. It's the same idiots that are complaining there is no "means" testing with this one.

Hey dummies, making it taxable IS a "means" test.

Making it taxable means most people won't know exactly how much they have to pay back in April and that will likely lead to overspending.

Northern Ontario,
People overspend their paycheck every day, do you want employers to quit paying them?
Or maybe that baby bonus check should come with a disclaimer "Do not overspend....this is taxable income"
I just hate stupid people........

Yea well you are only strengthening my point.

We both hate stupid people, except you are willing to just give them money to do as they please.

Did you read what you wrote....All you and the rest of the anti-Harper gang have been crying about is the Tax people were gonna have to pay.....not the baby bonus....
So don't be such a hypocrite...
