It's interesting and I have to say that even I was really surprised. There were something between 15,000-20,000 watching those Rugby matches. The American men and women both played various others during that grouping. Every time the Americans scored ... and I mean every time ...nothing. There was no clapping, booing. There was no acknowledgement at all that anything had happened (except for one pathetic quartet in glittery Uncle Sam hats). There was nothing. It was as if someone had farted in an elevator. The Brazilians were noisy, loud and proud. The Canadian fans cheered for all sorts of other countries when our teams weren't playing but not a peep out of a whole stadium when our neighbours 45 minutes down the highway were playing. I was shocked, actually. I guess it's because we're so "nationalistic" (read not rabidly pro-American).

I'm concerned.

The damage that's been done over the last decade and a half and along comes these internet knuckle walkers to amplify and exacerbate the growing "dislike". If what I saw on Sunday is any indication, "growing" is what is happening. You should really pay more attention and think about it. Do you really want the whole planet to despise each and every one of you? Just keep up this positive P.R. campaign that you're on.
There was some pretty loud cheering in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago! The Yanks OWNED that city!

We didn't even burn it down like the Vancouverites did after they lost the Stanley Cup. We had more class and respect.

Get salty now. :)

I'm happy we seem to be doing well in Swimming again. We have been having trouble even reaching Finals in the Olympics for a decade and more.. with the exceptions of Bruce Cochrane (1500m Free) and Brent Hayden (100m Free)

We should be a significant power in Swimming, equal to Australia, Brazil, Netherlands and other medium sized nations. A measure of the depth of your program is the 4X200 Freestyle Relay. We came in Second, after the Americans were dq'd, behind Brazil but at least we were in same tv frame. Hopefully a sign of things to come at Rio.

We blew the rest of the field out of the flat water in rowing too. Well done.

John Tory mocks his Kanye flub in video
By Don Peat, City Hall Bureau Chief First posted: Thursday, July 16, 2015 02:08 PM EDT | Updated: Thursday, July 16, 2015 08:42 PM EDT
“Yeezus, can’t believe I didn’t know @KimKardashian’s husband wasn’t Canadian!” the mayor of Canada’s largest city tweeted Thursday to introduce a video making fun of his Kanye West gaffe.
Wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap, John Tory bops his head in the video as he listens to Kanye’s song Stronger while taking his morning subway ride from St. George station to City Hall.
As he rides the TTC train, Tory is shown reading a copy of 24Hrs and then flipping to a hidden copy of Rolling Stone magazine with Kim Kardashian West on the cover. He makes a funny face as he stares at the sexy snap of the celebrity and then starts flipping through the magazine.
On Wednesday, Tory mistook Kanye, an American musical superstar and the Pan Am Games closing ceremony headliner, for a Canadian and then described Kardashian as having an “ample posterior” in a radio interview.
The video ends with Tory walking into City Hall and posing in front of the TORONTO sign in Nathan Phillips Square.
“Mayor John Tory: Working hard to make Toronto...Better, Faster, Stronger,” the video concludes.
A few hours after Tory shared the video it had already been retweeted more than 1,370 times and favourited more than 1,000 times.
Steve Ladurantaye, head of news and government partnership at Twitter Canada, said the tweet of the video was one of the most retweeted things Tory has ever posted “by far.”
“I think the response was largely positive,” Ladurantaye said. “I watched it with my mouth hanging open.
“With a gaffe like that, I think the best thing to do is not take yourself too seriously.”

yeah. I reacted the same way when we had a gold called back and we ended up in second place in number of golds. :(

How many Golds? Canada is trailing by a few at this point.

Our B, C, and D teams/athletes are holding their own.

That's an amazing athletic move - As I mentioned here a long time ago, I've been to many athletic events over the years and the toughest pre match work out I ever saw was in sync.

No doubt that the athleticism those women have is nothing short of mind boggling... I can't even begin to imagine the fitness level required to execute those moves in a basic sense, let alone in a flawless manner in a competitive setting.

GREAT post.

The athleticism of these athletes is enormous - but what really sets them apart from other sports is the great dedication these athletes have to sync. No sport anywhere requires more practice and conditioning time that it does. It just never ceases to amaze me how incredibly dedicated sync swimmers are.

That's an amazing photo

here's how the Canadians executed that highly technical move:

I watched the replay and they didn't hold it half as long or half as well as did the USA. Yet, they got gold & USA got bronze.

Back in the day my first serious girlfriend was a synchro swimmer. She could beat me in a race while her upper body was completely out of the water. The power in her 'egg beater' was incredible, like a tornado under water.

Hey gopher.... I heard on the radio this evening that the Cdn women won gold in basketball. That in itself was surprising, but it stated that they beat the American women's team.

If this is true, how in the hell did it happen?

If I may answer... they gave them a whooping. 10 points I believe.

All fair and square.
