But didn't he have dementia or Alzheimer by then. That may be why Wally thinks he was fully functional.

It (Alzheimers) was diagnosed later. It is possible he had some early dementia toward the end but does it really matter? Aren't you the one who is always saying the president is just a puppet anyhow?

I thought he was older. Guess I was wrong. Didn't read much about Truman. Popular in the State of Missouri where I lived for a spell.

Harry brought WW2 to a quick and decisive end.

But didn't he have dementia or Alzheimer by then. That may be why Wally thinks he was fully functional.

I think by the time Ronnie was starting to dodder he was probably past 75 as I think it was well into his second term when he was having his afternoon snoozes.

It (Alzheimers) was diagnosed later. It is possible he had some early dementia toward the end but does it really matter? Aren't you the one who is always saying the president is just a puppet anyhow?

Even so shouldn't he be semi alert in order to get his instructions straight?

What's the title of the book Ron Jr., a Democrat, co-wrote with Nancy Reagan?
no sorry Walter upon further research I was wrong about co-authoring...take Nancy out of the equation...it's Nancy's son with Ron.

"My Father at 100", written by Ron, Reagan's natural son with Nancy.

none the less...he says he was showing clear signs of dementia early on...and as I said: "Does it really matter"

but I think to people such as yourself it would

to me, not so much

no, that's me...

according to his son, it began much earlier but then in my experience it does...people with dementia KNOW at the outset that it is happening and they become masters at cover up (fear will do that) and it happens to the best of us

when they first accessed my mum at the nursing homing they thought she was okey dokey....and according to their tests she was...I who was close to her and impartial already knew they were wrong

I didn't say anything and it took them quite some time to figure it out...experts aren't also so expert...we know our own bodies and we know our own minds and we know the habits and abilities of those closest to us if we can step back and be honest...that however is rare I find

and thus with Reagan...I would trust his son's judgement over a doctor any day

I am also certain Nancey would have known...would she have "told" of course not...I didn't

Backlash. Whenever oppressed groups make progress, there's a backlash. The abolition of slavery produced Jim Crow and the Klan, the Civil Rights Acts produced COINTELPRO and FBI surveillance of black leaders. All attempts to rationalize immigration policy produce Minutemen-style hysteria. The growth of women in the workplace, especially above the level of "order taker," produces the vicious sexism we're seeing.

And of course, hard economic times make people stingier, especially as regards groups. And it ain't just the U.S. Read some of the open hostility toward women, FNs, and immigrants in Canada and Britain.

Of course, the ultimate economic hard times, the Great Depression, spurred the ultimate backlash, Nazism.

People who are afraid don't want to admit it, even to themselves. So they use anger and hate as masking emotions for fear.

thanks... I know it isn't just in the States that people are falling to the right. I know Canada is leaning that way too. The thing is, it's hard for me to judge because one can not access the average Canadian via most in here who lean so heavily toward the right they make republicans such as yourself look like republican-lite.

I also can't tell by those around me since most of my friends would be fiscally conservative but uber left socially (they have hearts)...except for my guy who leans pretty right compared to me but still thinks it's morally wrong to let people starve to death or suffer medically...but he is a hippy compared to most in here.

I have never been in a forum so right tilted. Even the American forums where I used to post are far more balanced.

I know you lean republican so I trust your assessment to be mostly impartial since I would access you to be pro human rights.

I think lots of people make assumptions about peoples leanings by comments made on specific issues. They assume that if they are leading right on one thing, they might be right on all things. I think that may be true only of a couple of posters on each side but most of us are somewhere all over the map or heaven forbid, in the middle.

I would have agreed with you Ski even a year and a half ago...now I find most lefties have been shoved out with the exception of a few who are smart enough to know when to shut up and not push back. If one doesn't know when to back down from the pack, one disappears quite quickly. It has been thus in here for a long, long time now and it is too late for change.

I will say things have improved lately but even those newbies who post a few times and don't agree with the core vanish. Who could be bothered when personal comments are allowed and they are new.

*shrug*...it's management mentally which is suck it up or f*ck off

I know I will modify my posts now because frankly I don''t want the bullsh*t fall out that would go with my true opinion on many issues which some just can't debate, it has to become personal. I am comfortable here enough that I don't rock the boat except on things that I feel uber strong about and then they can f*ck right off because I will make my opinion known because it's core. Other than that I STFU because it isn't worth going against the pack. They have the power so a small group of us, let it ride.

no here we go again right here with a drive by from one of the sacred...unless it is the pack mentality it doesn't flow...
Pack mentality is a good analogy. Makes me think of wolves. Not the lone wolf like in the movie Dances with wolves who was a good wolf, but ravenous wolves whose demeanor changes when grouped with the status quo.

Northern Ontario,

The fact that it's raining right now and can't go on my evening walk with my dog is bothering me a lot more than anything posted in the forum.....seriously.....

why is America leaning so far right?

With the exception of Congress, and temporarily the Supreme Court, all of America's institutions are controlled by left wing extremists. And Congress is only slightly less leftist than Obama on most questions of public policy. The right wing is pretty much powerless. That may explain the hysteria on the right.

Northern Ontario,
My allergies just flare up for about a week in august not enough to get tested as to what is causing it...It's just that the rain is a double downer, besides interfering with my walks...
This week is clean up week, when the town picks up stuff they don't normally do, like heavy junk....so last week I had my old Garage/ storage taken apart, and brought to the dump, and all the junk it contained went to the front lawn and the town truck will pick it up Wednesday....But my snow-blower, lawn-mower, barbecue and various tools, shovels, ladders, step-ladders etc. is sitting in my backyard, while I'm waiting for the 10 by 12 utility shed I ordered comes in.......there's nothing the rain will hurt but.......

yeah that's what my guy keeps telling me and I will concede to a degree but by the time Reagan left he was no longer functioning on full throttle ... then again, presidents do what they are told on the important meaningful issues so....don't know if it really matters all the much...a wooden puppet has no brain or memory at all yet still serves the purpose well
Is that Sal speaking or Cliffy . Same song different person . The big bad man behind the curtain . Just close your eyes dream of home and click your heels together three times Dorthy .

Hey that almost makes sense . Don't confuse anyone , it's all Bush's fault . Jeeeshhh .
