America’s oldest living vet turns 109 and shows us his guns

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubrvCLL9X2E

Richard Overton turned 109 on Monday, May 11, 2015. This makes him America’s oldest surviving World War II veteran.

I recently had the honor of visiting with Richard at his home in Austin, Texas. He credits his health and longevity to smoking cigars, drinking whiskey and being able to defend himself and his country with firearms.

He’s hung out with everyone from the president to senators to celebrities.

I wanted to do something different with Richard and since this is Guns.com, I asked him to show me some of his own personal firearms.

Happy birthday Richard and God bless you from all of us living in the free world.

Hey, Welfare is not supposed to be a career choice. Get a job.
Get a JOB?? I have worked from the age of 11 until the age of 64. Unlike most males, I worked 8 hours at a job I loved and then did work on our dairy farm afterwards. Over and above that did the cooking, laundry, housekeeping for the family. It is men like you who have it easy. You have way too much time on your hands. People like you make me sick with your bleeding complaints about your blooming dangerous toys and having to actually follow a few rules to use them!!

I probably pay more taxes, than you earn in a single year. So knock it off.

LOL......It is not Boomer who is beating a dead horse, it is me.......over and over and over and over and over. If I disagree, I must be a welfare recipient, or illogical, or dumb, and anything else that flits through the dimly lit brains of those who cannot find a decent rebuttal or cannot stick to the subject.

Firearms and violent crime in Canada, 2012

Pay particular attention to Chart 3 which shows firearm related homicides between 1972 and 2012 has decreased in Canada, NOT increased.
The other charts show that not only has gun violence decreased greatly since the early 70's but that other means of violence has increased greatly. It shows that gun control does work. Unfortunately, other forms of violence has increased greatly. Seems while we can take away the easiest way to kill people we cannot take the urge to kill out of humans.

Chart 4 is even more interesting. Take a look at where the US ranks in gun violence compared to Canada. Even Switzerland is minutely higher than Canada's

Another example of guns saving lives

MAN SHOOTS, KILLS ALLEGED HOME INVADER TO SAVE WOMAN, BABY

On May 11, a man in Gwinnett County, Georgia, shot and killed an alleged home invader and injured another to protect a mother and baby.

The incident occurred around “just before midnight.”

According to AJC.com, the man told police he retrieved his gun after seeing the suspects “walking across his back patio.” Shortly thereafter, he heard a knock at his front door and, when he answered it, the suspects “asked him to step outside”

The man told them he did not want to step outside. Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera recounted what happened next:

When the victim said that he was not interested in stepping outside, that’s when the suspects forced their way inside the home. One of them was wearing a mask and one was armed with a bat. Inside the home was the victim’s family, a female and a small infant.

Once the men were inside, the man fired “at least two rounds,” striking one of the alleged invaders in the chest, killing him. Another suspect–32-year-old John Michael Bush–was also shot, but his wounds were not life-threatening.

Police arrested Bush when he showed up at a hospital for treatment. A third suspect was also apprehended at the hospital. Police believe he may have driven Bush for treatment.

The man claimed he saw a fourth suspect “limping” away from the scene. Police searched but did not find him.

Stupid f**king question! Was 4th Ave. the only place where drugs were running rampant? Weren't Hate and Ashbury similarly involved?
Are Haight and Ashbury in Vancouver ? And was that area of San Francisco a particularly violent area other than during anti Vietnam riots ?

The points you've raised so far are non sequiturs. Pot is only one of many drugs and perhaps one of the least harmful! :)

Taken from the previous link I posted.......Your rare selections of what you think as an excuse to allow a loosening of gun control laws in Canada, are as senseless as sticking a bandaid on arterial wound.

Text box 4
Firearm-related violent crime in the United States
Violent crime in the United States tends to involve firearms more frequently than violent crime in Canada. There were 8,813 homicides involving firearms in the United States in 2012, accounting for 69% of all homicides, while in Canada, firearms accounted for 33% of homicides.6 Similar to Canada, the majority (72%) of firearm-related homicides in the United States were committed using a handgun.

In addition, when looking at specific offences, the rate of firearm-related crime is higher in the United States than in Canada. In the United States, a firearm was present in 22% of all major assaults, compared to 4% in Canada (Text box 4 table).7 The rate of firearm-related major assault in the United States was about ten times higher than in Canada in 2012 (53 per 100,000 compared to 5 per 100,000). Similarly, robbery in the United States was more likely to involve a firearm than robbery in Canada (41% of all robberies versus 12%).

Not at all because you are missing the elephant in the room . What else changed during the 1970's ?

We have had Vietnamese gangs killing fighting and killing .
then came the Russian and Columbians .
Many South Asian gangs .
Lately the Iranians have been in the news .

Get the point .

They all possibly contributed a small amount, but "the elephant"? Maybe a mouse!

Let me explain this to you in a very simple way.. regardless of the Canadian Laws regarding guns, there are 1000's of people in Canada that still own 'unregistered' hand guns and rifles..

The laws mean nothing..

So would you prefer having a bunch of illegal guns in Canada, or would you prefer to know where those guns are?? Loosing the regulations allow people to come forward out of the shadows.

Illegal gun market booming in British Columbia

Illegal guns in Ottawa smuggled from several U.S. states

RCMP estimate over a million unregistered guns in Canada.

(Enjoy your false security)

Yeah, you going build prisons to imprison a million people.. double your taxes to pay for it.. duh

You're a typical "Liberal". You just say, toss them all in jail, without thinking about the implications.. the cost..

You "Liberals" sure love to tax and spend.
