So with all the Earthquakes 6.1, 4.5, 4.1, 7.8 should Vancouverites be concerned??

Everyone there knows the risks. Sooner or later something big will happen but the chances of it happening anytime soon are slim.

Yeah. Who'd have thunk that you would die climbing up Mt Everest because of an earthquake, considering all of the other hazards up there.

it's ironic really and one would have trained for it for months and months doing stuff like running straight up hill all out for lung conditioning etc...my god, when your number's up, you're done, doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing

There have been Tsumanis in the past that slammed the Outside of the Island there's evidence in the archaeological record-no such evidence exists here on the Inside-it can't happen.

Of course I expect waspish know nothings to argue the point especially if they've never seen the place or been on the ocean.

Not to piss on your parade.. I mean I would love to agree with you on this topic... But..

Metro Vancouver Tsunami Risk

Just something I had to look up before buying a condo in the Lower Mainland.

Tsunami, Flooding, Storm Surge Would Wipe Out Richmond, Parts Of Metro Vancouver

If Metro Vancouver ever suffered a Earthquake and Tsunami, the Nepal number of casualties would be miniscule compared to the number dead in BC.. maybe 100,000 to 250,000 flooded.

Richmond would basically liquefy, people would be trapped under rubble.. then the flooding..

Richmond Population 174,460 (2006)

The major Airport would be under water, and the main road to the USA cut off.

what's the point in being concerned...life happens...be prepared for what you can and forget the rest

But if you expect life to continue you should get the Hell out of there, pronto! Once it starts it's too late- every bridge will become a "bottle neck"

...and if a disaster like an Earthquake happens, just be prepared. Extra food, water, backup generator and medical supplies.. that's all.. and ride it out.

My cousin used to live in Richmond. His bedroom was on the second floor of his house. He hung a canoe outside his bedroom window so that he could just paddle away if the ground liquified from a quake and the house sank. Seemed logical to me. I would never live down there. The place is a trap, besides being an urban concentration camp with too much humanity.

If the east side of the Pacific Rift is being uplifted then wouldn't most of the water go towards the low side of the spreading, basically Japan would get hammered again. and the West Coast would be a tad higher.

I wouldn't! :)

Or too much inhumanity?

It will be very difficult to get aid into Vancouver from the outside. The Sea Island airport will likely be destroyed and brides connecting to the East may be out all the way up the Fraser Valley. Others may not be much better. Most likely, the best way to get aid to a devastated Vancouver will be by ship from, say, Comox (if it isn't destroyed as well) It will be a serious pickle, no matter how you look at it.
