I suppose anything that helps deflect attention away from their fiscal record is a good thing for the conservatives.

All that adds up to more costs on the cash-strapped corrections system, he added

Since when did the Conservative Party care about keeping expenditures down? They're addicted to my wallet and can't keep their hands off it.

Good for Harper for standing up for the common people. This is yet another law that only applies to criminals, not the rest of us. I would still far rather execute them rather than waste taxpayers money on locking them up for life.

What common people is Harper standing up for?

Good Gawd you're silly!!! All laws apply to all taxpayers as the taxpayers have to foot the cost. Just like a Dipper, you guys love to dip your hand into my wallet for your pet projects.

You are assuming all taxpayers think the same way.

Dippers and social conservatives do. They're always looking to the rest of the population to spend their hard earned dollars on their silly initiatives that usually don't accomplish much.

Sure he is, you're just not capable of recognizing that
Clearly you're in capable of offering a rebuttal. That's okay. Take your time. I'm sure if you think long and hard enough you can come up with some reason why spending more of my tax dollars on this Issue is going to make things better. I get that some people like you live in fear and believe that more government spending will alleviate that fear but may I suggest you spend some of your own money on some counseling and leave my money in my wallet

Yep, I never could see the advantage of keeping the likes of Olson, Bernardo and Pickton around just to take up space and eat grub that could be feeding hungry people.

Interesting comment, particular about the time lapse.

Looks like you needed almost an hour to generate that non-answer that was nothing more than a sad diversion of the topic at hand.

Well it's clear, in this thread anyway, that the supporters can't really explain the value that this legislation will provide the taxpayers. I understand that there are some vindictive people that just want to see people sit in jail at the taxpayers expense. I also understand that some people believe that the minuscule increase in safety is worth the excessive amount of public money that will be needed to implement this legislation. Given my analytical nature, I have a difficult time understanding the emotional response of some people. To me, it's the polar opposite of the gun registration issue. Some people felt unsafe because of guns and wanted the taxpayers to pay for some bloated program that gave them the illusion of safety. So I guess my question is geared towards all those people that tend to think emotionally. Why do you want everybody else to spend their money to satisfy your emotional need?

Not to be appearing to be supporting Cannuck in any way, shape or form under any circumstances, but people do have activities that can take them away from their computer for an hour. :)
