I have to agree with you. I don't think I need to detail my reasoning.

The ying and the yang comes close to explaining that winning dynamic

I agree that there must be a commonality to unite any group of people, Would you agree that in the past those commonalities have led to a constant state of war between countries and times of peace hung on a thread.

Some questions for you BT:

  1. What is multiculturalism
  2. What used to unite your nation
  3. what would you like to unite your nation in the present day
thanks

Very good and incisive questions.

What is multiculturalism

I will confine my comments to the USA. Multiculturalism is an artificial political construct used to acquire and retain power in the US by the American Left. It seeks to empower constituencies of the Left by emphasizing their continuing tribal roots in contrast to the existing dominant culture. In that sense Multiculturalism is centrifugal in nature. Multiculturalism is the opposite of Assimilation which is designed to fuse new elements into the existing body politic by emphasizing shared unity as a unique people. In that sense Assimilation is centripetal in nature. I often ask my interlocutors how Multiculturalism produces a united people. I have never received a coherent answer because Multiculturalism can not produce unity by itself. That is the case because Multiculturalism is antithetical to the unity of a people. In the absence of unity social, cultural and political weakness ensues. Weak polities become prey for stronger societies.

What used to unite your nation

The basis of unity changed with the passage of time, but the process remained the same until the advent of Multiculturalism and the abandonment of Assimilation. Most peoples are unified by race, culture, religion, or the shared experience of protracted and intense suffering.

Americans were gradually united by shared ancestry, culture and creed through a process of Assimilation that produced what's called the "melting pot." The ancestry was originally Anglo-American. This lasted until the era of the Civil War. Then the ancestry gradually morphed into Euro-American. This phase lasted until the time of the post-WWII era. Then new peoples from places like China came to America. My wife's family came to America from China at this time. They too were assimilated by the process of Assimilation that had made the Anglo-Americans and Euro-Americans into simply Americans. In the process the element of shared ancestry ceased to be a source of national unity.

Yet the power of Assimilation continued to operate on a cultural and ideological level. This was sufficient. Multiculturalism undercuts the existence of a unique American culture by emphasizing the continued viability and utility of maintaining the entirety of the culture of the old country in the new country. The phenomenon is readily observable in California where the state is being transformed into a land of rich and poor with no room for the working class which carried the American culture in their hearts. This is the same class structure of most Third World countries. If the process of Assimilation still operated the new demographic would have been transformed into part of the whole. In the process they would be changed and the existing society would have been changed by them so that both parts became something new together. But Multiculturalism short circuited the process of Assimilation and has left us with tribalism.

The cultural transformation serves the interests of Big Business, the American Ruling Class, and Latin Ruling Classes. The loser is the American working class because their wages are depressed by the torrent of a new demographic that lacks human capital to increase the wealth of the whole society. In other words America doesn't need any more people who are impoverished, uneducated and unskilled for compete for jobs with American workers. In any event culture is no longer a source of unity. Multiculturalism emphasizes maintenance of separate cultures. In that sense it promotes tribalism.

Let's turn to creed. The Founding Fathers created a Post-Enlightenment polity based on the ideas of Locke, Rosseau, Montisquieu, and a number of other Enlightenment philosophers and political theorists. The basis for that polity was the ideal of Individual Liberty. Individual Liberty is a concept which has a number of component parts that must all be pre present for individuals to achieve the greatest personal freedom within the context of organized society. Some of those components were personal autonomy, private property, equality before the law, the right to vote, and others enshrined in the American Bill of Rights.

But the American Left has seized the institutions of the country and promotes ideals which are antithetical to Individual Liberty. Today much of the country unofficially subscribes to the notion of Social Justice which effectively means Paternalism. Equality before the law has been transformed into Equality of outcome. Equality of outcome is murdering Individual Liberty through the vehicle of Big Govt. fused with Big Business.

That brings us to our present circumstances. There is no longer a national unifying principle for the residents of the US. If you disagree then tell me what principle unifies the residents of the US with a consciousness that they are a single people?

what would you like to unite your nation in the present day

That ship has sailed. It is never possible to restore the past. All attempts are futile and doomed to failure. The question is what course of action should be taken now. The time of the United States is over. Time to move on. Nothing lasts forever.

Here come the racist answers..... if the coward even answers.

Since you're all hung up on the left/right crap..... no real reason to go any further with this as left/right, in reality, has nothing to do with your whining.

Many Canadians also speak of American roots severed by your American Revolution. Perhaps that's a beginning At least, there's no way to inject Obama's fault on that....

That's true. And many Canadians have American roots based on British homestead and pioneering policies that opened up the Prairie Provinces to settlement. Some Americans have those same roots.

Since you're all hung up on the left/right crap..... no real reason to go any further with this as left/right, in reality, has nothing to do with your whining.

Discretion is the better part of valor. Retreat permits survival to fight another day.

I'm toying with you because I don't think you are worthy of being treated respectfully.

Thanks BT for your well thought out response. I was curious as to how you would respond. On first read as I was going through it there is nothing that immediately pops out that goes again my outlook on culture and human nature. I will take some time to go through this slowly because I expected to feel mild agree with some and adamantly disagree with other parts ...yet at this point I do not.

Don't be so silly. I'm not a retiree with nothing better to do all day but post user names of people on this forum. You know as well as anybody that there is only a handful of you trolls here and it would be much easier to post the names of you and your buddies than to post the names of those that respect alternate opinions and can dissent rationally without acting like an elementary school aged child.

Well, one of your assumptions proves what a f**king idiot you are! I rather doubt that I qualify for being a troll, there's a difference between trolling and stating facts! :)

Don't be so silly. Since the forum rules forbid trolling (not to mention personal insults) and the forum allows the reds, your statement is clearly ridiculous (and troll-ish).

Define trolling!

Urban Dictionary: trolling

Since I only make fun of trolls like you (that are far from innocent), by definition I'm not a troll. Obviously you and your troll buddies are.

No need to thank me. Aside from making fun of trolls, I consider it my duty to educate. Regardless, red reps are not trolling. You are clearly wrong yet again. You're probably used to that though.
