Oops just finished posting and guess what ......school shooting.......2 students and one employee wounded. It may be that home schooling will become the rule in the US in the future.
Well, should have waited a bit....Employee of a small store managed to shoot another one in the shoulder accidently. Geez and the news has just started!!
LOl......the rest of the news was about 2 trials going on......one of woman who shot her husband, in self defense, one of policeman who shot a young man and the police are searching students after a lockdown when the rumour got started about a gun on campus. Haven't heard what they found yet. All this going on in Florida. Maybe I should have waited until the news is done!!
Today, I was in the waiting room of an automobile repair shop, and a police officer came in. He stopped to pour himself a coffee, and I noticed that he is packing a taser, a handgun, and several clips of ammo.
It got me thinking, why didn't any of the anti-gun nuts in that room( or others like it) get all panicy and disturbed because "there's a GUN in this room.....OMG!"?
Is it possible that even the anti-gun nuts secretly realize that a gun in the hands of a good person is not a problem? Maybe their mission is not anti-gun. Maybe their mission is anti-rights. Perhaps, they are not happy unless the rights of good citizens are reduced to that of less than a police officer or a criminal.

Come now....that is not hard to deduce is it?? As reasonable, law abiding individuals, as a group, we have decided, that 1. laws are needed....2. Those enforcing the law should have the resources to do so.
We send our soldiers out to fight a war with the best defenses we are able to. Luckily, our troops are, even without the absolutely best in terms of weapons, they have become the best respected in the world by those they protect as well as those they fight against.
Those who fear weapons in the hands of Canadian troops or police are very few compared to many other nations. We are doing something right.
No I didn't....merely reinforcing it. Very few people even notice policemen with the tools of their trade in Canada. However, the fear factor here is greater. (US) I am more on guard here, with armed guards, policemen etc. I am not giving them a wider berth because of who they are but for why they are about, particularly if there is more than one; but because there may be a more deadly reason for their presence.

Of course those who want few gun rules, because they are collectors, hunters or merely because they feel the need of protection , use fear to keep the status quo. They use the fear of police, the fear of uprisings, the fear of invasion, in fact fear of anyone coming to the door. What a way to live.

I think our 35 year experiment with stricter gun control laws than the USA is a failed experiment. I am so glad that we have always had better crime rates than the USA, because our gun laws didn't help.
If you look at our crime stats over the last 35 years, you can see trending that correlates with an aging baby boomers population. You can see trends that correlated with reduced number of unwanted delinquents due to more liberal abortion laws. The one trends that is missing is the trend that shows that the increased gun control laws helped.

SEATTLE - A 3-year-old boy in Washington state was shot in the mouth apparently by a 4-year-old playmate, law enforcement officials said.
The boy had been playing with his neighbour late Friday at his family's Lake Stevens home, 35 miles north of Seattle, when his "father heard a loud noise coming from the bedroom," a Snohomish County Sheriff's Office statement said.
The wounded boy's father told officers the bedroom door was locked and he forced it open, finding his son with a mouth injury. The father said he thought the boy might have been hurt when the door was forced open, the sheriff's statement said.
The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where "it was determined that the three-year-old had a gunshot wound to the mouth," the statement said. The child was transferred to a hospital in Seattle where he was in serious condition on Saturday, officials said.
The kind of firearm involved was not yet known, the sheriff's office said.
"Initial information at the scene suggested that the four- year-old neighbour may have accidentally shot the three-year-old while playing, although the cause of the shooting is still under investigation," the statement said.
The families of both children are cooperating with the investigation, the sheriff's office said.
Last year, a 4-year-old New Jersey boy fatally shot his 6-year-old playmate with his father's .22-caliber rifle in his parents' bedroom. Anthony Senatore, 35, pleaded guilty in October to multiple counts of child endangerment for failing to secure weapons in the home.

So....would Dad have been charged with "multiple counts of child endangerment" had the child drowned in his swiming pool? (an item which statistically is more likely to cause an accidentalchild death than a firearm in the home)
How about if the child had drank drain cleaner from under the sink? Poisoning (including drug poisoning) causes 40% more deaths in the USA than do firearms in all uses.
Don't get me wrong....he deserves the charge, especially as it appears the gun was loaded (I doubt the ability of a 4 year old to load a .22) Secure your firearms, people.
At the same time, this is no reason to inflict gun control, any more than there is pool control or drain cleaner control.
Life is dangerous.
That is a tragic and clearly avoidable accident that happened in the US, not Canada.
If you want to imply that Canada is better because we don't have stupid **** like that happen, I am willing to agree with you.
However, if you want to give the credit to our stricter gun laws, I think you should need to also show Canadian trending that correlates to Canadian laws.

A nine-month-old baby was shot and severely wounded on Sunday by her father, who told New York City police his gun accidentally discharged while he was cleaning it.
Police in Brooklyn responded to a 911 call on Saturday afternoon and found the baby girl with a gunshot wound to her lower left abdomen, a spokeswoman from the New York City Police Department said.
The baby was struck by a bullet from a .45 calibre handgun that had been obtained illegally, the spokeswoman said. The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital for surgery, she said.
The child's father, Pedro Rosales, 47, told officers the gun accidentally discharged as he was cleaning it inside their apartment in Brooklyn's East New York neighbourhood, striking his daughter.
He was arrested on charges of assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
The baby's mother, Jessica Aguilar, 24, who was home during the incident, was also arrested on charges of reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child, the police spokeswoman said.
It was unclear if the couple had attorneys or how they intended to plead to the charges at an arraignment this week.

A New Jersey mother who shot and killed two of her children and critically wounded a third before turning the gun on herself died on Sunday, three days after the shootings, state police said.
Jeaninne LePage, 44, had been hospitalized in critical condition at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J., since the Thursday morning shootings at a home in Tabernacle, N.J.
State police said Sunday she had died, but gave no further details.
Her 11-year-old son, Alexander Harriman, remains in treatment at the same hospital, officials said.
LePage used a pillow to conceal the sounds of gunshots when she killed eight-year-old Nadia Harriman and 14-year-old Nicholas Harriman, police said.
The shootings took place in an upstairs bedroom, where all four victims were found in the same bed, police said. A revolver that was kept in the house and may have belonged to a long-dead relative was found near LePage's body.
Nine people including other school-aged children lived at the home, and use of the pillow may explain how the shooting could have occurred without being heard by members of LePage's extended family.
The home is a large single-family residence in a wooded area of the quiet neighbourhood nestled in New Jersey's rural Pine Barrens, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Philadelphia.

The point is that gun laws do not affect people that chose not to register their weapons.
