WHEN, exactly, did the NFL become the arbiter of public morals, and the overseer of the private lives of its employees??

This is bloody ridiculous.

Same as the NBA and that racist arsehole awhile ago.

IT IS NOT THE PLACE OF ATHLETIC ORGANIZATIONS TO POLICE THE CONDUCT OF PLAYERS OR OWNERS.

And I HATE team sports. All of them.

Now, do you want something to be outraged about?? How about the treatment Rice got from the justice system in Maryland??

N.J. officials say Rice got no special treatment | Maryland Daily Record

Yeah right (btw, notice they were both charged)

Philly mother of two facing felony charges for entering NJ with legally-owned firearm (VIDEO)

This lady gets a MINIMUM 3 year sentence. No consideration for her, despite her obvious lack of intent......

Of course it is. The conduct of those players or owners could hurt revenues.

And I HATE team sports. All of them.
Which could lead one who didn't know you to wonder why you're posting here.

The New Jersey part of Maryland, that is. Do you even bother to read your own sources?

It's like that in the New Jersey part of Maryland. Courtesy of their upstanding, conservative governor.

They're called "states," Colpy. Kinda like provinces. Separate jurisdictions, separate laws.

Oh forget it. I'll go tell a brick wall.

You do know the NFL is a business right?

If you owned a company that had a advertising contract with Rice would you still have him on your cereal box?

But nobody seems to have seen it. They are investigating.

I am really unclear what difference this makes though. First, they are suspending him differently than their own policy (their new policy which was recently created). Their policy also does not change based upon video existence or severity.

Also, the owner says he never saw video but says video matches their understanding of what happened based upon what Rice told them. Yet, they release him ONLY after the video is released. 2+2 is not equaling 4 here.

What part of "entertainment corporation responding to the demands of its customers" is giving you trouble?

Dead Man Commissioning

This is not about feminist demands or PC this or that. It's about market forces. NFL advertising dollars and branding.

When $$$ are in jeopardy, the NFL acts. Their image = $$$$.

What part of "entertainment corporation responding to the demands of its customers" is giving you trouble?

I understand why they are doing it, I just don't understand what they are doing. And why a video makes it worse other than putting it on the front of the news.

Bull****.

I gotta say it....NFL or any other fans that are deeply into team sports would not care if the players were sacrificing babies to Satan for an imagined advantage on the field. It wouldn't put them off the game.....

Here ya go.....and all my work buddies are SO excited the game is on again this season!!

The only demand of the "customers" is that these overpaid, spoiled, entitled, and often brain-dead thugs perform.

Yes, the die hards would not care. But the NFL already has their money. They want the money of the not-so-rabid fan too. They even want it from women if they could/can get it. I think their motivations here are 100% financial. Follow the money. Image is everything to them.

Oh, well the justice of the NFL/Ray Rice portion is covered by his contract, which gives the NFL the right to suspend or completely ban him for violations of the NFL's conduct policies. He has the right to appeal the NFL's decision, and will be represented by the union or counsel of his choice.

How is this unjust?

And the entertainment corporation has decided that it is better for its revenues to jettison employees who bring public disrepute upon the corporation. This is provided for in the players' contracts.

Suddenly you don't believe in freedom of contract? Is there anything you believe in other than everything running according to Colpy's opinion of how it should run?

I wonder if i was watching the same video as everyone else some times.. especially the media and their feminist pundits.

When Rice entered the elevator his girlfriend (now wife) backhanded him and then attaked him, flailing with closed fists. Rice knocked her cold with a single strike in response. One that produced no permanent injury.. or apparently any marks.. which would indicate a pulled punch. You would have a great problem prosecuting a case of assault or abuse in this case.. as by contemporary standards Rice was within his rights to protect himself and had not delivered the initial blow.

They were both drunk (which was primary reason for the girl's collapse and incapacity) and had been arguing verbally prior to entering the elevator. His wife admitted to her role in the altercation.. and they've kissed and made up.

Now, in fairness, Rice is a 230 pound professional athlete in peak physcial condition. His girlfriend is a 120 pounds of a somewhat thin and fragile consitution.

But the feminist movement has demanded the elimination of the 'old' rules.. where a man simply does not hit a woman.. to one of equality and gender blindness before the law. Well okay. then the same rules should apply to both.

What irritates me is the pathetic pandering of the feminists to their 'victimization' by men portraying themselves as deserving the special 'pedastal' that so adamantly claim to reject.. but only when it suits them and their cause.

Don't get me wrong. I condemn all battery of all kinds.. and especially against women. I just don't like the opportunistic hypocrisy of the feminist movement in this case who've made a political motif out of the case. There are far worse examples of spousal abuse than this.. and it all goes on in secret, without this public uproar.

On other websites people are comparing the media treatment Rice is getting compared to the kid gloves treatment it gave to Hope Solo who was allowed to play in the women's pro soccer league and who remains a member of the USA team. If Rice has to go for domestic assault, then in all fairness she should have to go as well.

Neither feminists nor anyone else is making that complaint in public. Only online commentators are doing so.

You don't follow soccer?

She has a long history of domestic abuse against her former boyfriend (now husband) and made threats against her sister and her minor son. Society's failure to impose the same sanctions on her constitute a sexist double standard.

No...I don't.

If this is true, then yes...I agree.

They should both be suspended.

This is self regulation by capitalism. The majority speaks loudly when major bucks are at stake. This is one of the great features of capitalism.

Except when conservatives think it's "unjust." Then they're all opposed to freedom of contract and customer desires dictating corporate actions, and the freedom of corporations to do what they think will maximise profits.

Well, the NFL has hired Robert Muller III to do an independent investigation of the Ray Rice Incident. I think it is starting to get blown out of proportion. I guess the sticky point is somebody at the NFL apparently saw the video and did nothing with it. Probably buried it beside the Bill Bellecheat evidence from SpyGate.

Investigation into NFL’s handling of Ray Rice case will be overseen by two Roger Goodell allies | National Post

Impartial or............
The NFL announced late on Wednesday that former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III will lead an independent investigation into how the league handled the Ray Rice case and evidence associated with the probe.

However, the investigation has several potential conflicts of interest that have left many wondering just how independent it will be.

To start, the investigation by Mueller will be overseen by New York Giants owner John Mara and Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney.

While those are two of the most powerful owners in the NFL, they are also closely aligned with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who has come under heavy fire for his handling of the Rice investigation.
