Adrian Peterson of the Vikings got busted for whipping his kid. Vikes have suspended him indefinitely but will pay him while he is furloughed. But he lost a few commercial sponsorships.
Of course. How could they be real men if they didn't chastise the little darlings when they're being unreasonable?

I must say, I do find it amusing when a security guard questions the intelligence of others.
The only issue I have with the Peterson kerfuffle is that in his case, his intent was not malicious. One can argue about whether what he did was right or wrong but in his mind, he was doing right
Rice has probably been dealt with adequately by the court and in this forum. Some would argue that as long as a guy's activities off the job don't affect his job, then the employer should stay out of it. Of course there's jobs where this wouldn't fly (head honcho in a woman's shelter) but I don't think contact sport is one of them! -

After the first welt was raised he should have stopped. But the kid had several welts so it shows his father beat him far more than was acceptable. The law is the law and it doesn't matter what the intent is.
From what I read, Peterson has accepted responsibility for it and is co-operating fully. It also was a punishment his dad gave to him so it was 'learned'. I would be surprised if there was not a plea deal reached.
I feel whatever punishment will be handed down by the NFL at this point (with the NFL being in money/face saving mode now) will be window dressing to the politically correct crowd and overkill to whatever the courts handed out.
The biggest losers in this are the fans of the Minnesota Vikings who will have to suffer from a team designed around the star running back and who without him seem quite dreadful.

When we were kids a good whuppin' was standard treatment for lying, stealing and cheekiness - the boys for sure, the girls got off a little easier! And generally it was a looooooooooooooong time before we reoffended!
