I hate to break it to you, but they won't be rectified under ANY circumstance, with Harper as PM with no inquiry, or with Trudeau as PM with several tens of millions flushed on an independent inquiry.

FN will simply use the results to demand more money.

Which the Shining Idiot would give them.

And which would solve nothing, except add to the chiefs' bank accounts.

Another flush..

I disagree.

We have many circumstances where independent, arms length groups provide critical research for us.

Just look at the budget watchdog and Harper's flub of those jets as one example.

The general consensus seems to be that there is a higher prevalence of crime in many aboriginal territories and it would be important to have some level of understanding of the root causes. The longer Harper tries to pass this off in a cavalier manner or conversely, attack Trudeau, the more he compromises his position as the issue grabs more attention.

An independent inquiry would also help take the partisanship out of this issue.

A police investigation with at least a minimum cooperation from band leadership would do much more to solve crimes than an expensive junket by politicians and bureaucraps. Tens of millions cheaper as well.

Probably because this is a national concern.

Great.. So, Wynne can establish a Blue Ribbon Panel to uncover and investigate the specific examples in Ontario.

That is perfectly acceptable and expected.... Do you think that this might have more to do with Wynne wanting to deflect attention from her involvement in the recent billion dollar scandal and Ontario's crappy economy?

The killing of one aboriginal woman, or anybody else, is one too many. But according to an RCMP report released earlier this year, the number of murdered aboriginal women in Canada per capita has dropped 41% from 1996 to 2011.
You'd hardly know it, with ongoing calls for a national inquiry and claims the problem is getting worse.
Actually, it's not getting worse. We should never be satisfied with any amount of killing in our communities, regardless of race or gender. But the number of murdered aboriginal women in Canada per capita is falling, not growing. And to characterize it otherwise is dishonest.
In 1996, there were 7.6 aboriginal women per 100,000 who were victims of murder, according to the RCMP's Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women: A National Operational Overview released in May. That number dropped steadily to 4.5 per 100,000 aboriginal women by 2011.
In fact, murders against all women in Canada have gone down during that period, according to the report.
Also, despite claims Canadian police agencies don't take the murder of aboriginal women seriously enough -- another reason behind the drive for a national inquiry -- the facts tell a very different story.
The clearance rate for homicides against aboriginal women is actually very high and almost identical to that of non-aboriginal women. That's because police don't care what the race of the victim is. Homicide detectives want to solve murders regardless of race or gender. And they're very good at it, solving some nine of 10 female homicides between 1980 and 2012, according to the RCMP report.
For aboriginal women murder victims, the clearance rate is 88%, almost identical to the 89% rate for non-aboriginals.

Now here is something that REALLY irritates me.....violence against women?? The "War on Women"??

Bull****

Between 1980 and 2012, 14 per cent of female murder victims with a known ethnicity were aboriginal, far exceeding their 4 per cent share of the female population, according to Statistics Canada.

But 17 per cent of male murder victims were also aboriginal during that time. In total, nearly 2,500 aboriginal people were murdered in the past three decades: 1,750 male, 745 female and one person of unknown gender.

StatsCan’s figures differ from those compiled by the RCMP, which released a report in May saying 1,017 aboriginal women had been murdered since 1980. It also noted that the “solve rates” for murders involving aboriginal and non-aboriginal women were virtually the same: 88 and 89 per cent respectively. The report did not address male murder victims.

You get that??

Aboriginal men have been murdered at a rate TWO AND ONE HALF TIMES that of aboriginal women.

Mr Wynne has mellow violent crime stats compared to Mr Wall. 10% of violent crimes in Canada happen in SK with 1/36 of the population and it ain't f-ckin' whitie doing them. It 10% of our population. Everybody here knows what's going on. If an inquiry means we can crack down hard then so be it.

If nothing happens there will be an inquiry into vigilantes. There are a lot pissed off and disgusted people ready to blow gaskets.

The rate for aboriginal murders (regardless of sex) has remained the same, while it has gone down for everyone else.

When you have a growing population, this becomes a concern.

(from the article I quoted a couple of posts below)

Looking for historical stats on the male rate, but I would suggest they follow the trend in both aboriginal women and the society at large........DOWN.

Like I said, the per 100,000 statistic is disingenuous when should be based on the population of a territory - Canada.
