Comments on this thread are probably moot. Unless one knows the complete story and all the ramifications of all the hundreds of scenarios, I think it's difficult to comment on the matter, especially as it's political. -:)

Nah, it's easy to comment. Just pick the extreme-end anecdote that best fits your prejudices, and let fly!

Why haven't the '"40,000,000 uninsured" signed up for BHOcare?

Canadian Doctor answers question from Republican on Universal Health care

Dr. Danielle Martin is about to become a national hero, at least to those who value Canada’s universal health care system.

The Toronto physician was in Washington D.C. Tuesday to speak to a Senate subcommittee about the virtues of the single-payer model employed in Canada, the U.K. and most other Western countries.

But when North Carolina Republican Senator Richard Burr had an opportunity to question Martin, he tried to paint the Canadian system as riddled with inefficiencies that had doctors fleeing in droves.

“Why are doctors exiting the public system in Canada?” Burr asked.

“If I didn’t express myself in a way to make myself understood, I apologize,” Martin noted with a hint of irony. “There are no doctors exiting the public system in Canada, and in fact we see a net influx of physicians from the United States into the Canadian system over the last number of years.”

The most pointed exchange, however, was about Canadians dying due to long wait times for surgeries.

“How many Canadian patients on a waiting list die each year?” Burr asked Martin. “Do you know?”

“I don’t, sir,” said Martin, “but I know that there are 45,000 in America who die waiting because they don’t have insurance at all.”

Umm. . . only the UK, Canada, Australia, and Taiwan have single-payer systems. Most "Western countries" use mandatory insurance systems.

Canada is among an elite class of nations that have a mandated single payer system... We share commonalities with esteemed nations like North Korea and Cuba.

The balance of (most) Western nations have a blend of private and public systems that operate more efficiently and are more cost effective than Canada

OK, NOW I'm jealous!

Look on the bright side, as long as the U.S. is here, you CAN'T be the worst.

We got your back, Canada!

What a load.

Well Doc... if you don't have any facts just make it up.

Last year 253,000 Canadians died because of the Canadian Health Care System.

Well, from a local POV, the healthcare service around here is mismanaged to an unbelievable level. If it were in private hands, the people that run it would be turfed so fast they'd still be spinning next Friday.

Paid for... but not covered. I bet the Obama Administration counted each and every one of his employees as being part of that bogus 4 Million that now have health care.

We had "e.health" in this great and wonderful province of ours. Then McGuinty sacked the CEO. She then moved to California and got a similar job. Then we sort of sacked.......after several other fukkups....McGuinty. Well, he resigned because he left such a toxic pile to shyte behind, no one's going to figure it out nor fix it for decades.

I think a guy died in one of our ER's as he was left for 8 or so hours, begging for help and getting none.......But he was old so no one gave a sh*t.

That's about the only one I can think of.

Hey....it's only ONE guy eh.......

Let them eat bandaids

I saw that purple. :D
Anyway, as Martin pretty much trimmed the fed contribution down to 10%, the provinces "run" their own versions somewhat along national guidelines. Some provinces do better than others.
It's fun paying for coverage that doesn't exist, huh?
