However, there is a difference between people on the left and right. Folks on the right often have bad ideas. Folks on the left are usually bad people.

I don't believe there are bad people. I believe some people just have an incomplete view of the world.

Given my field, I am actually much more pissed off about the census. That is such a huge loss for such a minor political gain.

It is pretty dumb that they would prevent scientists from communicating their findings to the people who are paying for the work to be done in the first place. This stuff isn't being paid for by Harper or the conservative party, so there is no reason that they should be allowed to control it for partisan political gain.
