Mostly it is the ones that have had more than enough of the Liberal Ruling Elite getting some of their own back.

Exactly. They just want to watch it burn.

I don't enjoy watching anything burn or ice up, but I do get a kick out of people who take politics seriously.

Probably sucks if you live in Toronto. Then again, maybe not. I can't even remember my mayor's name. Sign of a good mayor, in my opinion.

The disaster plan is written by the Director of Disaster Services (Ontario may use a different term). The council passes the plan. The mayor doesn't have a great deal of input.

Quite frankly if the mayor "has" to do anything, it's probably a pretty pisspoor plan. I remember people dumping on Bush after Katrina. Bush should never have been involved except that others failed miserably. A politicians job during an emergency should be nothing more than public relations.

I think that you need to accept that Toronto doesn't work the same way as whatever town it is that you worked for.

I think it's mostly the rabid anti-government types who just enjoy watching the whole thing burn.

Most people don't know the difference between government and bureaucracy. When it comes right down to it, not much has changed since Harper took over, other than a little window dressing and not much will change when Justin takes over. The bureaucracy remains relatively unchanged.

Really. I was unaware that Toronto was part of some parallel universe. Look, I get that you don't like Rob

More like the sign of a low-information voter or, better yet, non-voter.

Maybe. Actually, one of the things I like about Harper is that he doesn't feel the need to have his mug front and centre all the time. He focusses on getting his job done.

But you know his name yet your municipal gubmint affects you more than the feds and you don't know your mayor's name.

There is a need in our society to mourn the loss of something collectively or to
proclaim someone a hero and personally I am getting sick of both these things.
they either want me to go out in the cold or the heat to wave a flag and proclaim
someone a hero or they want me to put out cards and teddy bears and pretend
to cry at a funeral for god knows who.
Now if someone does something like actually go into a burning building to rescue
an old lady or a child they are a local hero but we don't need a national day
devoted to them
As for mourners Remembrance Day I understand. Mandella I understand I get that
but we have 9/11 and the school killings and Pearl Harbour after more than sixty
years and god knows what else Give it a rest already. It is time as a society that we
all move on now until there is a reason to mourn.
I we are going to celebrate Rob Ford in some way perhaps we should all collectively
mourn that such an a** is bringing negative international attention to us. Oh can't
do that there are too many like him engaged in hero worship. The other side of this is
I think it was Cliffy who said he gets a kick out people who take politicians seriously.
I know Walter will disagree with this for sure

Politics is your belief system put into action. Given Cliffy's beliefs, I'm not suprised he doesn't take politics seriously.

Really. I was unaware that Toronto was part of some parallel universe. Look, I get that you don't like Rob (I'm just glad he's embarrassing TO and not my town) but the laws that govern how municpalities operate are the same province wide. You might want to look it up.

Actually, no, laws do very from province to province(you appear to be in Alberta), and Toronto actually is governed by different laws than the rest of Ontario municipalities.

You can see quite clearly that this situation is different from whatever you did because our city council has not sat or voted on anything since the start of the emergency.

The only thing that really hinged on a decision by elected officials in Toronto was if it was declared and emergency or not, and that power rests with the mayor.

He was comparing a village that you had a role in to a larger city of 5.5 million. There is a difference.

Well said. Personally, I cannot understand the loyalty he evokes.
me neither... the apologists jumped right in...I just shake my head...no wonder we end up with the type of leaders we do, once someone backs someone doesn't matter what they do people defend them...

it's like a personal investment in the guy....he can't be wrong because I like him, or I voted for him, or he politically leans my way... no such thing as impartial

Me, I think he is and have stated before he is an idiot.
Regardless, it is up to the voters in the next election whether he is elected again as Mayor.

I don't think he is an idiot. I think he is bright, has some wonderful ideas and has done some great things. Problem is, he was hanging with unsavory people long before he ran for mayor. If you know his mother at all she is one tough b itch, hard as nails woman.

The guy has some heavy duty problems and he needs to get himself under control and deal with them. He does not appear capable of that and continues to run amok.

It would appear people can not work with him. That is not a leader.

He is his own worst enemy- then add in his brother.
