Oh they kicked azz all right and no they were not British citizens. They renounced their citizenship and many were not british in the first place. Lots of Dutch and French that had no love for your lunatic king to start with.
Rubbish. The IRA engaged in guerilla tactics against the British Army during the 1919-1921 Irish War of Independence between Ireland and Great Britain (both of which were part of the UK then), but they still couldn't beat the army. The British won the war.
In fact, the British Army is probably the best in the world at fighting guerrillas because of the Northern Irish experience.
The German Army beat East African guerillas during WWI.
They didn't kick British butt. It was the British and their Loyalist and German allies that did the vast majority of the butt kicking. It must be the case that over three quarters of the battles were won by the British and their allies.
And the colonists were NOT US citizens. How could they be citizens of a country which didn't exist? They were Britons, subjects of the Crown.

Hmmm. Really. For a war that was fought using guerilla warfare, the battle grounds are pretty well known. The strategies, the front lines.
Civilian death was also quite low for a guerilla style war.
Historical representations and re-enactments must be quite out to lunch.
They fought a war, they died and bled for freedom. Once they gained that freedom, they won the right to define for themselves who and what they were. They created a country, and that country was named the United States of America, and the prize of their fight, was the right to be US citizens.
The people never changed. They didn't swap the citizenry out for a new set. 'these were colonists, these are citizens'. To try to claim a distinction is ridiculous.
Basically, poor leadership of the English, which included.
1 Little or no effort to address the grievances of the colonists.
2. Tactical incompetence on the part of English officers.
3. Distrust of Loyalist forces, which led to them being greatly under-utilized, to say nothing of insulted. (this included many of my ancestors)

They didn't die for freedom. They died for selfish reasons.
If you want to look at poor leadership and tactical incompetance look no futher than the Yanks under George Washington. He was a terrible military leader and it's no surprise that the colonists won so few battles.
As for the "poor leadership" of the British - that'll be the same British which won three quarters of the battles despite being VASTLY outnumbered?
Ahh...in Vietnam, the Viet Cong and NVA won NO battles...........but they won the war....largely because of the tactical incompetence of the Americans at the time.

Bull****. The USA lost around 70 battles in Vietnam. I've told you before: don't believe what your North American historians tell you. They lie and romanticise. Only Scotland has a more romanticised history than the USA has.

The fact that you believe that Washington was a great military genius just shows the type of romanticised, false history that Americans are taught.

Colpy obviously heard that speech by Obama a few years ago in which he said America won every single Vietnam War battle. He sure did cause a few historians and Vietnam War veterans to scratch their heads in puzzlement, that's for sure.
The truth is that America lost around 70 battles in that conflict.
And if they were to pay taxes for the Seven Years War and the continued British military presence in BNA, then they should have had
representation in parliament....or at the very least some consideration of their trade and well-being.
The problem was English snots in the old country had their heads too far up their own **** to consider the realities in BNA...........
