Precision guided missiles, ballistic and long range cruise, can create what is called Anti-Access, Area Denial zones in which it is too dangerous for unauthorized vessels to operate. Canada will need to launch guidance satellites to provide precision to ballistic missiles if it prefers those over cruise missiles. This is the Chinese model of how to enforce sovereignty over adjacent seas. Canada needs to assert itself.

First, the new generation comes out of school and vote NDP, the closest thing to communism, (Tree hugging is part of it).....
Then the facts of life hits them and they switch to Liberals for a few elections...
When they finally become enlightened, they then vote for whoever has the best "workable" platform or vision for their city, province, country.......

This is relevant to this discussion because Britain needs foreign sales to keep the per-unit costs of the new frigates low enough to make them affordable. As of 31 January 2011 Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, and Turkey had all expressed interest in collaborating on the Global Combat Ship, and the UK was in "close discussion" with Canada. A Canadian union campaigned that the Global Combat Ship threatened Canadian shipbuilders and in the run-up to the May 2011 election a spokesman for the Canadian Defence Minister ruled out involvement with the British programme, so will not have any of these ships. Turkey also later rejected the design as not meeting its requirements.

Aircraft of the size of the Boeing Chinook will be flown off the large flight deck, which will have an extra hangar door and space to accommodate Unmanned Aerial Vehicles [drones] . The hangar can take Royal Navy Wildcats and Merlin helicopters.

Interestingly, armed services sources say that they want to see the Type 26 able to deploy SDVs [swimmer delivery vehicles] for special forces. This squares with the fact that the accommodation facilities have been increased from around 166 to around 200 people.



There will be three variants of the Type 26:

• the anti-submarine warfare [ASW] variant;
• the anti-aircraft warfare [AAW] variant;
• and the general purpose [GP] variant – aimed at counter piracy, maritime security and counter terrorist operations.
