Yes, I know, what a delicate flower, but honest to goodness what I want more than anything on this forum right now is the ability to put a thread on ignore.

I wish I could describe the visceral reaction, the bile rising, the hands shaking, the tears welling up, that happens when certain topics come up and refuse to die off the main page. And I don't expect people not to talk about them. It's news, it's awful, it matters, immensely. But I can't freaking handle it. I don't want to even have to see the headline. It's so distressing to me some of the things that go on in the world, and I know burying my head in the sand isn't exactly the answer, but, reading it just seems intolerable for some reason today.

And no, I don't really expect you to program in a 'thread ignore' function for me over one article about a dead baby, but I needed to vent.

Thank you.

I can relate Karrie. I can't even bring myself to open that thread.

It's warped, nasty sh*t indeed but there is a necessity for thread like that to be posted.

As Sun Tzu said; "if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle".

it's impossible to be diligent and protect the rest of those who need protection if you don't know who you are protecting them from or what you are capable of doing protect them.

I don't want to battle, I'd rather have the ability to be preemptive.

Somebody had to know these feral people's capabilities. What prevented those people from taking actions to prevent this tragedy? Their fears? The lack of knowledge of what to do or did they turn their heads and ignore the behaviour of this couple?

I'd like to believe it was lack of knowledge that held those who knew back from acting accordingly but some how I feel it was indifference that prevented them from doing whatever they could to to stop this from happening.

It is available on another VB board I frequent. Not sure what version it uses or CC uses but it is there. Looks like it is not in CC version or not enabled.

It's not about being a delicate flower, it's about what experiences we bring to the board and how we cope with different experiences. There is NOTHING wrong with avoiding certain triggers that set us off emotionally. I did read the thread which you are referring to, it made me shut down and there is nothing wrong with that reaction either.

The thread is necessary for obvious reasons and actually if burying your head in the sand works for you on this one then have at 'er. We are called to do various things in this world but not everything.

Northern Ontario,
The only thing I would like is a (Mark thread as read) button so I don't have to open then close it to mark it read for threads that don't really interest me...

I know exactly how you feel and exactly what you mean. I vacillate between abhorence for the perpetrators and abhorence for those who dig this morbid sh*t up. I'd feel better if I thought getting acquainted with this sh*t would put a stop to it.

*scratches head* Are you implying he's a weakling for not wanting to read threads about babies being raped to death either?

What upsets me even more are porn-spammers that post in threads like this one or threads like the one karrie is talking about. I realize it's more than likely a bot, but it's still vile.

On another board I belong to one can ignore someone, so you don't see their posts and they can't PM you either. I in fact just looked around to see if there was such a function here, as I was given reason to hope there was.

Yes, there is that function here. Simply click on the member's name, and on the drop down menu 'ignore user'.

But wouldn't you be eliminating posts by that poster that are sensible? For example if a guy put Colpy on ignore because he/she is tired of the 300 million posts on guns, but has no problem with other stuff Colpy posts.

If you ignore someone, yes, you ignore them. It's up to you to decide if they are worth that or not.

I really don't care if it makes a good post, I ignore them and lose interest in anything they say. But mainly I was hoping that it would stop it from PMing me. It seems to have done that.

Christianna, there is also a 'report' function in the PM's, so that you can report any harassment, etc., to the mods.
