Actually,it is a good thing. The economic ties are becoming 'strained', and its time to reduce the southern market percentage. As logn as they don't start firing patroit missles at our non stops to Havana- I'm cool

I'm glad they'll be charging a tax on Canadians. Unkempt creatures. Have you ever tried to get a parking spot at FIGMOs on a Saturday morning? Have you ever tried to eat something made from maple syrup at Disneyland? There's always some annoying, smelly Canadian around saying, "We invented that!" Like they were some lost aboriginal from north of your border in Florida. You did not invent maple syrup. Angels did.

"We invaded you guys!"
"Jim Carey and Lorne Greene were Canadians!"
"You're welcome for basketball!"
"We designed the Canadarm."
"Chris Hatfield is a Canadian guy!" (Please take him back. All he does is lead singalongs and make television commercials from space. He's NOT helping!)

Give me a break! You wanna know why so many Canadians end up in the US? Spend a month anywhere in Canada! You'll be screaming to get out.

And let's get something straight with regard to history; the British invaded the US, NOT Canadians! The War of 1812 was NOT a war between Canada and the US. It did NOT feature Canadian aboriginals either. They were just aboriginals. They did not recognize citizenship then. They don't now. Natives didn't have a 49th parallel. No Iroquois or Huron customs.

Hey whitey, get over it! You weren't a country until 1867.

Thanks for your support!

Excellent plan.
I hope the Americans ramp up the tax to $100 a head.
Keep the pi$$ed of Canadians out of the US.
Then the Canadian tourist dollars can stay at home in Canada.
And the snowbird money stays in Canada as well.
Keeps the cross border shoppers at home and then they can do their shopping at local Canadian stores.

The Americans on the other hand are welcome to visit Canada border tax free.
Just leave your wallets on the way out.

One of the stupider American ideas I have seen lately.

Only if you are flying it says. I would have no problem paying a fee when crossing by vehicle. I like going to the US, for if anything else, the weather is far better than Hellberta! LOL! We could charge as well. After all turn about is fair play.

Simply retaliate the Canadian way.

All others would do something emotional like stamp up and down and scream like a baby and implement a flat visitor's tax on everyone.

Canada, on the other hand, would maintain a simple chart of which nations require visitors' entry fees, and would charge visitors from those nations that charge.

"Customs Agent: And where are you traveling from?

Business/Tourist: America.

Customs Agent: And where are you from?

Business/Tourist: America.

Customs Agent: Then that will be $5.50 ma'am."

It might get a bit complicated dealing with Mexican tourists. You know the routine... the Mexican customs agent holds out his had for an offer in order for your vehicle not the be held up for hours of searching... in that case, Canada could do a statistical analysis of the average bribe charged per Mexican border-crossing by Canadians, and peg the Mexican visitorship rate to that.

Just keep the receipt and have the first american vendor which you pay a hundred dollars refund your entrance fee. That way, everyone wins.

Your AIF's, ATSC's, HST's, GST's and any other Air Transportation Charge your governments have conjured up makes shopping for an airline ticket on your side of the border comparable to shopping for medical insurance for a family of four in the US and you're bitching because of $5.50? Canadians that live near a major American city HAPPILY pay the $5.50 to avoid a couple of hundred dollars flying out of a Canadian city. Flying within and to/from Canada is beyond expensive.

Won't discourage people from grocery shopping there, not that it is meant to discourage..
