Some people signed a petition that is all and dumb people at that.
Does this in fact mean the majority of those on the left believe in
the practice? No it does not, what a bending of fact to serve a
purpose of shock value, look at the evil left. I suggest it is nonsense.
a huge number of womens libbers are on the left and in a room full
of them I don't think you would find a supporter.
Did some misguided souls sign onto this nonsense yes but they would
sign on to all kinds of nonsense. There are nut cases on the left and
we have all born witness to the crack pots on the right haven't we.

Most male circumcisions are avoidable and necessitated in later years due to scar tissue from people forcing the foreskin back when they are babies.

The articles about it being a disease benefit are based on flawed studies of a tiny sample of men.

But all of that is beside the point.

The fact of the matter is, people should not be cosmetically altered without their consent, least of all their genitalia.

I'm fully aware.

If a young woman is put through surgical labial trimming, it is mutilation. If a baby boy is strapped to a board and has his foreskin crushed off without anaesthetic, it is circumcision. If an African woman fears that her daughter will never get a husband in their community if she doesn't have it done, she's horrible. If a father worries that women will turn his son down unless he's done, it's valid.

One is right and legal. One is not. One is justified. One is not.

Karrie, this argument is simply silly.

I never heard of a "natural" being turned down because he is a natural. :)

"............... people should not be cosmetically altered without their consent, least of all their genitalia"

And I agree. But male circumcision is NOT merely cosmetic. It is a medical preventative proceedure, and the choice to have it done or not rests solely with the parents.

The World Health Organization:
WHO | Male circumcision for HIV prevention

The Mayo Clinic:
"For some families, circumcision is a religious ritual. Circumcision can also be a matter of family tradition, personal hygiene or preventive health care. "
Circumcision (male) - MayoClinic.com

The Center foir Disease Control:
  • Male circumcision reduces the risk that a man will acquire HIV from an infected female partner, and also lowers the risk of other STDs , penile cancer, and infant urinary tract infection.
  • For female partners, male circumcision reduces the risk of cervical cancer, genital ulceration, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, and HPV. Although male circumcision has risks including pain, bleeding, and infection, more serious complications are rare.

Several types of research have documented that male circumcision significantly reduces the risk of men contracting HIV through penile-******l sex.

CDC - Male Circumcision - Research - Prevention Research - HIV/AIDS

And that says it all....................

Northern Ontario,
Why do doctors recommend adenoid removal when a child is getting a tonsillectomy, even if it's not absolutely needed,?......even if adenoids are part of your auto-immune system....

I have an older family member who had to be circumcised right after getting married.8O..I was only a few years old at the time....so the reasons for it are just family rumours

Pretty much standard? You might want to look into that. I don't know many people who've had their boys done.

I suspect there are more boys in North America who are genitally mutilated than girls. North America has a large Jewish population.

No other culture in history has made so many both rich and free...............

In the twelveth century, Islam was more advanced than the west..............but the very nature of Islam (submission) is the antithesis of of the liberty, the freedom of thought that is essential to development and the evolution of society. Therefore Islam has simply slid backwards for the last 800 years, while the west moved forward.

So cutting the end of kid's knob off as soon as he's born is the reason that we are so rich and free?

Islam--big fans of circumcision, incidentally. So much for that theory.

It is not simply that 19 people signed, it is that 19 out of 20 people approached signed....only one refused.

Does the Christian Faith teach submission to the will of God too? What's the difference? All religions teach that, even my own.

Consider too that in Moorish Spain, the Bible and the Qur'an stood side by side in the national library. In fact, 'heretical Christian sects and Jews were fleeing Europe for Spain at the time.

History of male circumcision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fact that medical rationalization was instilled later, doesn't change the origin of its application in western countries.

Karrie...

You are being ridiculous.

The World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, and the Mayo Clinic all agree that male circumcision is a preventative medical procedure, as I listed below..

Would you like me to list a few more sources??

I am sorry, but I think I will take the opinion of the world's pre-eminent medical organizations over yours on matters of medicine.

Now, considering we were (idiotically) comparing male circumcision with female genital mutilation, perhaps you could find a reputable source pointing out the benefits of cropping the clitoris, slashing the labia, and sewing the ****** shut, causing it to heal shut, thus destroying any chance of sexual pleasure, increasing the chance of serious infection, making child birth dangerous, and sex painful.

I am not holding my breath.

Once again, male circumcision has medical benefit.

FGM is exactly and only that....mutilation.

Comparison of the two is simply ridiculous.

The Christian faith preaches tolerance, and reward or punishment in the next life.

Islam teaches jihad.

You are correct about Muslim Spain......but that was 600 years ago, and Islam has done nothing but slide backwards in that time, while the Christian world advanced by leaps and bounds.

Male circumcision is cosmetic unless done for an actual medical reason.

Removing body parts without anaesthetic, incase they develop problems down the road, is not valid medical care. Canadian health care makes no bones about it.... it is not a procedure they will pay for unless medically necessary, because it is cosmetic.

Cosmetic genital alteration is just that.

I don't know if it does. You could argue that female genital mutilation greatly decreses STDs in those women. For those subject ot the more radical forms of mutilation, sex is likely to be a pleasant experience, therefore they will not engage in that risky behaviour.

Really, for every medical association that recommends circumsicision, you can find another that doesn't, so you're no further ahead.

All in all, I'll leave it for my son to decide. I didn't want his first experience on earth to be cutting the end of his knob off.

Millions of young boys (Jewish ones, for example) get genitally mutilated every year, but nobody seems to be bothered about that.
Oh please circumcision is nothing like FMG. It would be if they whacked off the boys testicles and chopped part of his ***** off while they were at it, so that when he defecated he would be prone to nasty infections, same if he was able to give birth. Can a circumcised man still enjoy sex the women can't (in fact probably really dreads it) and again there is the huge risk of infection especially after she is first penetrated if she is basically sewn shut so she could brag about how tiny she is. both inner and outer labia are more often than not sliced off as well if the girl survives the infection from that procedure that her grandmother or some witch doctor performed. Learn something about FMG before you try to tell me about how poor boys are mutilated!

How did Christianity and Jews survive to teach all this to those living in the Ottoman Empire? Did they teach the Christians to kill the Jews too?
