Ummmm, I require an ID before I vote so I'm not sure what the issue is. Actually, the states that are requiring ID are providing ID for free and getting ID is available at Motor Vehicle branches etc., so they're bending over backwards to ensure everyone can have ID. As for the other issues, I haven't heard of any - just seems to be the ID.

Redrawing boundaries would be an issue if its not for ensuring that each district has an equal amount of population and for not other reason.

It's been less than 10 years that Provincial photo ID has been issued nation wide. last election, the line for signing declarations was too overwhelming for the lad working at our polling location.

Sign up to work the next election and find out. pay is decent. $250 for the day.

What state is that? Voter ID laws are being squashed everywhere. Here in Massachusetts you do not need an ID to vote. I've said a number of times that any Canadian here on CanCon can come down and vote for me. Just give them my name and address on voting day at my polling station.

As I've posted before in another thread, the last time I voted, I had to show a photo ID even if one of the ladies at the table was someone I had known in school over 50 years ago, simply because I was not known to one of the other scrutineers at the table where I picked up my ballot....

I forgot that Dixie was actually in Alberta, CA.

Canadians do it the right way... have an ID to vote.

Wow what a shock!

However one of their own knows it won't work. How, well he's a minority.http://thinkprogress.org/justice/20...epublican-voting-restrictions-going-backfire/

Sal? Don't you, as a Canadian, need an ID to vote?

I know you have to show a drivers licence to vote and some don't like it.
Its the nature of America when the NAR doesn't like having permits for
guns, and the list of examples goes on. What is happening here is the
Republicans are really after immigrants, primarily illegals and that is not
a bad thing. The problem is they appear to be restricting peoples freedom
to vote. It may not be the issue but it is the perception and that will destroy
them. Minorities are joining forces and that will soon leave the white
voters in a minority. The only real chance they have is to gain a portion of
minority voters before they are gobbled up by the Democrats and that is
what is happening.
More polarization is what America doesn't need and the Republicans are
forging ahead down that road. The old white guys making deals in the back
room is a thing of the past.
Minority voters will find a way around this and they will demonstrate voter
vengeance on the Republicans. Powell is right it's bad policy and its being on
the wrong side of history

actually it does depend here if someone can swear you in you are good but...on a serious note, I would say for the most part...yes and it needs to be picture ID along with the form they mail to your particular address so you need both

Due respect, grumpy, what the Republicans are after is to restrict Democratic votes so the Republicans can win. End of. They don't give a damn about the "right to vote" or "voter fraud."

Just as the Democrats didn't give a damn about the "right to vote" or "voter participation" when they pushed a number of laws to make it easier to vote. They were concerned about winning. End of.

The only thing that will determine whether people especially the minority coalition
is the actions of the parties involved. Right now Republicans can scheme all they
want people will find a way to vote. Instead of voting for ideas they will vote to get
even as i would. In addition if people have good ideas they won't need to resort to
this kind of nonsense.
What to the majority of people want? Pensions, Medicare and other social programs
and if they are picked at or dissolved by the powers that be, those people will lost the
next election. It is the way of Europe and the west and increasingly it will be the same
in Asia once their society evolves.
I believe the current Republican Congress is heading for a huge defeat. It comes
down to this if government can afford huge economic breaks for rich people it can
afford programs for those who are not rich.

That's a great sentiment, but the numbers show differently.

I disagree. I guess we'll see who's right in about 14 months.

So Canadians do need an ID to vote.

Does that mean they are restricting voting rights for minorities?

.

Always have needed ID to vote up here, Eagle. Guess if a homeless person with no ID and who is known to no one, shows up at the polls, he/she is SOL.............and I guess they would be a minority. (for now at least 8O)

But, we don't stack the deck so "minorities" can't vote. We just don't have the same "race hate" that some states do in the US.

All that race hate is going to bite someone on the a s s sooner or later. - probably the restrictors. And if Repubs are doing the restricting, it might be their a s s .

For whatever reason, there's a whole generation of minorities who have grown up with one or no parents, have known grinding poverty, and have no way to rise in society.

Coming soon, thanks to the societal machinations of our greet leader to a Canada near us. Unfortuately.

As I said before... you could easily vote for President down here Captain.

Hell, Capt., you could run for president.................although something about being born there...........

Nope. No ID Just utility bill somebody with ID can vouch for you. It's the minorities (Natives) who go the utility bill route for the most part.

To identify yourself or have someone identify you. In other words... a form of identification.

You don't have racial problems? Come now.

How is the deck stacked so minorities can't vote here?
