Well, he can continue to see the shrink then. As for treatment, that can wait until he is a free man after he is released from prison. It wasn't a rush before, it doesn't need to be a rush now.

I agree 100%.

Sending a letter saying you are a woman in a mans body does not mean that treatment has started.

Bradly will have to suck it up till he gets out of prison

  1. Yes, taxpayers are on the hook now for transgender hormones and whatever else they do.

I'm thinking no.

It'll be part of his psychotherapy.

I'm doubtful

Bradley Manning adopts new gender, name: now Chelsea Manning - CNN.com

"That includes access -- like any other inmate -- to mental health professionals like psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and behavioral expects, said Kimberly Lewis, a spokeswoman at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where Manning will be held.

She added those diagnosed with gender dysphoria, the medical term for those who identify with another gender, "must still complete their sentence" without hormone therapy or sex-reassignment surgery provided by the Army."

So unless some judge steps in... he's going to be Bradley until he gets out.

They'll put him on the same heavy meds that will curtail any sexual urges or emotions like the do sex offenders.

My wife worked in the loopy unit for Corrections Canada and still does at the PCC when needed. The nutjobs have it easier than regular convicts but far less rights.

He just made his 35 years even tougher than they would have been. We are talking about a military type prison, and he will remain a male until such time as he is released.

Depends on who's runnin' it...

so - the military took someone with psych. problems- sent him/her into the bizarre hellhole called "Iraq'- assigned them to process sensitive classified information and wonder at the reaction...

And the Cdn Military sent Soldiers overseas that were not mentally fit.
It comes down to a lack of resources, resources over-strained,soldiers sent back before their due date for redeployment, 1 year back in Canada mandatory before being sent again, unless a waiver is signed.
Do not sign the waiver, career over.

Chelsea Manning attempts suicide in prison again, attorney says

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chelsea Manning attempted suicide for the second time in recent months while the transgender soldier remains imprisoned in Kansas for leaking classified information, two of her attorneys said Friday.
Attorneys Vincent Ward and Chase Strangio declined to divulge details of Manning’s suicide attempt last month at a military prison at Kansas’ Fort Leavenworth. Wayne Hall, an Army spokesman, said medical privacy laws barred him from discussing the matter.
But Manning’s attorneys cited her prison conditions — including the solitary confinement that her legal team says she received as punishment for her July suicide attempt — as contributing to their client’s fragile mental state.
Strangio, in an email to The Associated Press, called her treatment since her 2010 arrest and subsequent time serving a 35-year sentence “demoralizing and destabilizing assaults on her health and humanity.”
“After her July suicide attempt, I watched her begin to piece her life and spirit back together only to have that shattered by the disciplinary proceedings brought against her and then the unannounced initiation of her term of punishment last month,” Strangio wrote. “She has repeatedly been punished for trying to survive and now is being repeatedly punished for trying to die.”
Strangio added he worries about Manning’s “ability to keep fighting under these relentless abuses.”
Manning, arrested in 2010 as Bradley Manning, was convicted in 2013 in military court of leaking more than 700,000 secret military and State Department documents to WikiLeaks. Manning was an intelligence analyst in Iraq at the time.
In 2014, the ACLU sued the U.S. Department of Defence over its refusal to treat Manning’s gender dysphoria.
Manning staged a several-day hunger strike in September until the Army agreed to get her treatment for her gender dysphoria, including surgery recommended in April by her psychologist, the ACLU said.

When he's fully transformed, I would think that she will be transferred to a woman prison, where she can live as a lesbian? In a women's prison, she will be obviously stronger than others, so a pod master.

U.S. Army still views Chelsea Manning as a man: Court
David Dishneau, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

A military prison psychologist has refused to recommend that Chelsea Manning’s gender be changed to female in her Army service record, complicating the transgender soldier’s quest to wear a feminine hairstyle at the men’s prison where she is serving a 35-year sentence for leaking classified information, according to a court document.
Manning’s American Civil Liberties Union lawyers disclosed the decision in a filing Monday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The document says the chief of the Mental Health Division at the Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, prison declined Manning’s Nov. 4 request to update her gender in the Defence Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System. The filing says Manning made the request “based on her having achieved stability in her female gender.”
The document doesn’t say why psychologist Ellen Galloway refused. Army spokesman Wayne Hall declined to comment Tuesday, citing medical privacy laws.
Manning has tried to commit suicide behind bars at least twice, in July and October, according to her lawyers. In a Nov. 8 application asking President Barack Obama to commute her sentence to time served, Manning wrote, “I am living through a cycle of anxiety, anger, hopelessness, loss and depression,” citing her treatment at Leavenworth.
The White House confirmed Tuesday that it had received an ACLU letter supporting the commutation request but declined to comment further.
The court document filed Monday is a status report from both sides on Manning’s lawsuit seeking a court order allowing her to wear her hair longer than 2 inches, the maximum length prison standards allow for men.
In the report, Manning’s lawyers say a new Army policy enabling soldiers to officially change genders does not provide a way for Manning to do so unless she is released, so that she can obtain the required documents, or receives transgender surgery.
Manning’s lawyers said in September that the Army has agreed to provide the surgery. U.S. Justice Department lawyers say in the status report that the government is assembling a team to assess Manning’s current treatment plan and make any necessary adjustments.
The Army private formerly known as Bradley Manning was convicted in a 2013 court-martial of leaking more than 700,000 secret military and State Department documents to WikiLeaks while working as an intelligence analyst in Iraq. Manning said she leaked the documents to raise awareness about the war’s impact on innocent civilians.
