What? You didn't get off on Lord of the Rings? Lots of adults like stories no matter how fanciful they are. Reality is not always a bed of roses and some people need an escape mechanism.
It was entertaining for a few hours, just as I thought Avatar and 2001: A Space Odyssey were entertaining. But do I think real life should be like that? Do I think real life is like that? Nope and nope.
On the flip side of a birth, people seem to be devastated when a favorite actor or some other celebrity dies and it gets plastered all over the papers, tv, and the net for days on end while at the same time a few people in a Cessna might crash and die and it may get a small paragraph on page 4 or a couple sentences 15 minutes into the newshour on tv and then its gone.
McLuhan, "Celebrity is news. Everything else is entertainment". True but it's pretty pathetic. Same sort of context as McDonald's "good deeds" like Ronald McDonald House; people may think, "Oh, that's very humanitarian", but if you consider the crap they feed people and the fact that McDonald's exists simply to make money, I can't help but think that attitude is pathetic.

The new parents came out of the Lindo Wing with their new son at 7.13pm last night to show him off to the gathered world media. William joked that his baby son who, like him, will one day be king, has more hair than him, and that he has a "good pair of lungs"! The baby appeared to give a royal wave.

After showing him off to the world the couple briefly went back into the Lindo Wing to fit their baby into his new car seat. They re-emerged with William carrying the tot in the seat and it took him just moments to install the seat into the back of the car, so it seemed liked he had put in lots of practice. The prince then drove his wife and son to Nottingham House, the little cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace which is where the family is living whilst their apartment within the palace is being renovated.

Should the baby be king at the same age that the Queen is now - 87 - he will be on the Throne in the year 2100, the first year of the 22nd Century

Baby Cambridge was taken to see his grandparents on his first afternoon out today as it was revealed the Queen and the baby's uncle Prince Harry have now met the royal baby for the first time.

Kate and William smiled broadly and waved from their car as they were driven away from Kensington Palace by security, where they had spent their first night together as a family.

Both the Duke and Duchess looked happy and fresh-faced, with William sat in the front passenger seat and Kate in the back with their child in his baby seat.

They left their west London home shortly after the Queen had visited her new great-grandson and potentially discussed names with the parents, as the guessing game over what he will be called continues.

Kensington Palace officials would not confirm where the young family were going this afternoon, but their black Land Rover was later seen arriving at grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton's mansion in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Her Majesty, who will travel to Balmoral for her summer holiday on Friday, spent 30 minutes with the Duke, Duchess and Baby Cambridge from 11am.

It has also emerged that Prince Harry, who is said to be thrilled to have become an uncle, may have been there last night after the trio left hospital, having raced back to London from Wattisham airbase in Suffolk where he is on duty with the RAF.

It is understood that James Middleton (the baby's uncle) and Pippa Middleton (the baby's aunt) were also at Kensington Palace yesterday evening.

Prince Philip has yet to meet his new great-grandson, but he and his wife will be heading to Balmoral on Friday and it is understood that Kate and William may take the new prince there for a long weekend this summer.

The baby has been named.

He is Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.

George had been the bookmakers' favourite for the first name of the prince, who is third in line to the throne.

He will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.

Prince George and his parents are currently at the duchess's family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, after spending a night at Kensington Palace.

The Duke and Duchess had been expected to pick a traditional royal name for their son, who was born at St Mary's Hospital in London on Monday at 16:24 BST, weighing 8lbs 6oz.

Royal infants usually have historical names which are passed down through the generations.

This is a relatively quick announcement of a name compared to previous royal babies.

It was seven days before the name of a newborn Prince William was announced in 1982, and there was a wait of a month following Prince Charles's birth in 1948.

All births in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, regardless of parentage, must be registered within 42 days at the hospital before leaving or a register office.

BBC News - Royal baby: William and Kate name their son George

British royals do NOT have to choose their Christian name as their regnal name (the name they will be known as when they are monarch). They could choose any of their names. King George VI was called Albert but, rather than becoming King Albert, he decided to use George, one of his middle names, and become King George VI.

So this new baby could become King George VII (or King George VIII should Prince Charles, whose middle names are Philip Arthur George, become King George VII), King Alexander or King Louis.

It has been predicted that the birth of the royal baby could add as much as £500 million to the British economy, with nearly half of that being spent on royal baby related souvenirs.

Souvenirs, memorabilia and food and drink will sell on the back of the royal birth immediately - while in the longer-term royal themed pushchairs and clothing will make millions, according to valuation experts Brand Finance.

The new baby's midas touch will supplement the Royal family's annual contribution to the British economy which Brand Finance estimates to stand at £1.5 billion so far this year alone.

The firm says the new baby will swell the coffers and enhance the assets of the family as a whole, including Crown Estate and Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster, which stands at £53.6 billion.

The most desirable pieces are likely to be the ceramic cups, dishes and bowls which will vary from the cheap and cheerful to gold leaf-covered fine bone china creations costing hundreds of pounds.

Stoke-on-Trent, the home of England's pottery industry, was a hive of activity as companies geared up for the birth.

Designs have been drawn up and potters are waiting for the moment William and Kate's baby is named.

Dr Laura Cohen, chief executive of the British Ceramic Confederation, highlighted how foreign collectors, especially from countries such as America and Japan, prize items from the UK.

She said: 'This will be a welcome boost for UK tableware and giftware manufacturers, generating significant sales for many companies in the UK and overseas.

'UK manufacturers are uniquely placed to commence manufacturing as soon as the baby's name is announced and so respond rapidly to orders.

'Many customers value the "Made in England" backstamp on cherished family items such as these marking royal occasions.'

Memorabilia to mark the royal birth will be led by the official range produced by the Royal Collection Trust.

lol How would you know? You're wrong anyway. But, you often are, so it's no big deal. ;)

BTW, the kid's name is George Alexander Louis Windsor.

His initials are GAL (he doesn't take the name Windsor).

I suppose that's a bit of a consolation for those po-faced uber-feminists who so vocally expressed their disappointment that a prince was born rather than a princess.

Prince George - who is the ninth Prince George - already has his own wikipedia page: Prince George of Cambridge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The last time, until now, that Britain (and Canada and several other countries) had a Prince George was in 1942. Prince George, Duke of Kent was the fourth son of King George V and Mary of Teck. He was an uncle of Queen Elizabeth II. He died on 25th August 1942 along with 14 others on board R.A.F. Short Sunderland flying boat W4026, which crashed into a hillside near Dunbeath, Caithness, in Scotland while en route from Invergordon, Ross and Cromarty, to Iceland.

I've just realised that Prince William also has Louis as one of his middle names.

So as well as it being the case that Prince George will become either King George VII, King George VIII (should Prince Charles, whose middle names are Philip Arthur George, become King George VII), King Alexander or King Louis, he could also become King Louis II (in the event that his father decides to take the regnal name King Louis).
