I see you are off early.
That's another red herring argument, those people were much more than just atheists and atheism is not what drove them, they were fanatic ideologues promoting another belief system. Communism as it was implemented there had many of the features of religions: texts with a status like scripture from Marx and Lenin and Mao, charismatic leaders who sounded like preachers, personality cults, an official dogma, suppression of dissent, severe punishments for heresy, coercion of belief, the usual stuff people do when they think they're absolutely right beyond any chance of error. What they were really trying to do was replace existing belief systems with another one that had no more grounding in reality than the originals, and it worked about as well as these things usually do.
Nope. Late lunch. Your assumption was wrong again. You must be getting used to that.
An anti religious belief is not the same as atheism. They used communism (which is a religion of sorts) to justify the killing of religious, as well as, intellectuals and others they disagreed with. So using atheism as the motivating factor was using a red herring. And it is not a red herring- The State used an Anti Religious belief to direct hatred towards and give the people someone to hang.
Recall the times and the anger of the people after WW1 and the Revolution.
And like Hitler they also targeted Jews.
So after reading about the bad sides of both, tolerance of differences should be the expectation. Would you agree?
Acknowledgement is the first step to healing.THE Catholic Church has released the names of 29 Melbourne priests it acknowledges were guilty of sexually abusing children.
The ABC reported last night that of the 59 priests whose victims had been paid compensation, the church had named 29, including repeat offenders Desmond Gannon and Michael Glennon. It would not name the other half, some of whom it said had died before the allegations were made and had not had a chance to defend themselves.
Victorian police, meanwhile, are interviewing one of Australia's worst pedophile priests over new abuse allegations.
Gerald Ridsdale is eligible for parole from late next month after serving a long prison sentence for abusing 30 boys between 1961 and 1987.
Police interviewed the 79-year-old yesterday afternoon over historical child sex abuse matters allegedly committed in the 60s and 70s, when he was working as a Catholic priest.

on this forum, which is 'not' expected to have private threads, debate is invited, it is healthy
and it is what this forum is all about.
there are many many different topics, and many different people enter into those threads and
state their opinions.
when a religious person starts a thread here, he/she is also inviting others to come in and debate,
and if he/she expects the religious thread to remain only for those who are religious, and only
to discuss their own types of religion, with only those who agree with them, they are barking up the wrong tree, and should post only
in a religious forum, where others are not welcome.
a true atheist doesn't have a sermon to preach, or a book to follow, doesn't go to church, his/her
only difference to the religious person, is that he/she doesn't believe in what the religious believe.
That is normal for most threads here, that is why there is so much debate, and many times arguements.
A person who hates religion and fights back to the religious people, and wants to force them to 'not'
believe in whatever religion they like, is no different than the fanatical religious who attack the
atheists, just because they don't believe in god.
A real atheist does not do that, they just don't believe, period, and are not interested in pushing
any religious person around, because they believe.
But, a debate on the subject, without being pushy, is normal and healthy, if kept under control.
But can be difficult, no different than politics.

You missed adding the word "some" in there. We have a number of Members that have a Religious belief. Yet it is evident that those that do not have little to no tolerance for those that do.
Personally, I like most religious people; just not the nonsense they follow. They actively haunt those threads about religion and offer the same crap they always do.
That in itself speaks volumes about their belief in tolerance.
They demonstrate the same intolerance that they condemn.
Then they have the audacity to condemn others for not being quite so tolerant as they think they should be.
They are rather confused I would say. And I am being polite when I say that.

Nope, it's a sign of frustration........ sometimes.Nope- When discussing a part of religious text and the meaning is, how does an Atheist qualify when they drop in to insult.
Tell me is that a discussion?
Really? What are missionaries all about then? What do JWs do? Doesn't the Bible tell people to go forth and conquer? oh sorry, I meant go spread the "Word"?I do not see many with Religious beliefs running a Crusade against Atheists. I see the opposite on far to many occasions.
Some are, some aren't.A real Atheist - Are you saying those Atheists that insult are not real Atheists?
Disbelief isn't belief.Just because they are insulting does not detract or lessen their belief.

Yes it is, using what communists did to religions as an example of what atheists would do to religions is not a legitimate connection. It was not atheism that motivated communists and atheism is not communism, the claim is not justified. And it is not a red herring

Yes, I understand the frustration. I feel it too when people try to separate the church from the behaviour of the people in it, as if the two were not connected.
