Study: Regular Marijuana Use May Prevent Diabetes and Make You Skinnier

Current marijuana users have 16 percent lower fasting insulin levels compared to non-users, according to the American Journal of Medicine

Activist Post

Regular marijuana use is associated with favorable indices related to diabetic control, say investigators. They found that current marijuana users had significantly lower fasting insulin and were less likely to be insulin resistant, even after excluding patients with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. Their findings are reported in the current issue of The American Journal of Medicine.

Marijuana (Cannabis sativa) has been used for centuries to relieve pain, improve mood, and increase appetite. Outlawed in the United States in 1937, its social use continues to increase and public opinion is swinging in favor of the medicinal use of marijuana. There are an estimated 17.4 million current users of marijuana in the United States. Approximately 4.6 million of these users smoke marijuana daily or almost daily. A synthetic form of its active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly known as THC, has already been approved to treat side-effects of chemotherapy, AIDS-induced anorexia, nausea, and other medical conditions. With the recent legalization of recreational marijuana in two states and the legalization of medical marijuana in 19 states and the District of Columbia, physicians will increasingly encounter marijuana use among their patient populations.

A multicenter research team analyzed data obtained during the National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES) between 2005 and 2010. They studied data from 4,657 patients who completed a drug use questionnaire. Of these, 579 were current marijuana users, 1,975 had used marijuana in the past but were not current users, and 2,103 had never inhaled or ingested marijuana. Fasting insulin and glucose were measured via blood samples following a nine hour fast, and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated to evaluate insulin resistance.

I can believe that one hundred percent because there is no way the ordinary user can determine the quality of the cannabis as pertains to the mixture of the many compounds in the plant. This particular test was done with stuff that had 23% THC and .5 % CBD there's fifty or more other active compounds in the stuff. That is why the strain is important and the ratios of actives.
Still there are very good results in a signifigant number of cases. My body likes the higher CBD , it very much reduces my arthritis inflamation and subsequently the associated pain is also very greatly reduced, but not just any cannabis will do.

Smoking is not the best way to do pot. The oil is more concentrated and only a tiny amount is needed, no side effects from smoking. Also, there is a big difference between Sativa (stimulates) and Indica (relaxes). From what I am reading and hearing from users, Indica is a better choice for healing most diseases. Supposed to be good for heart disease too, which I have (congestive heart failure).

Also, if one is smoking pot, the better way to ingest it is with a vapourizer. It is heated just enough to release the THC (about 120% F) and other compounds that need heat, but not hot enough to burn, which is where the complications come from (hot smoke can cause irritation of the throat).

Hemp is better for medicine. THC doesn't do jacksh*t by it'self and why studies using just THC have been flimsy

it's the only compound people think of when they think of pot and the only chemical at play.

CBNs CB whats? sounds like al Qaeda to me.

New Study Shows Cannabinoids Improve Efficiency Of Mitochondria And Remove Damaged Brain Cells

A recent study conducted by Andras Biokei-Gorzo at the Institute of Molecular Psychiatry at the University of Bonn in Germany is suggesting that marijuana(or the activation of the brain’s cannabinoid system) triggers the release of antioxidants, which act as a cleansing mechanism. This process is known to remove damaged cells and improve the efficiency of mitochondria. Mitochondria is the energy source that powers cells. The study was published in Philosophical Transactions Of The Royal Society, B.

Another ridiculous assumption from a pothead. Some peeps will say anything to advance their drug. Too bad that our aunt who was a long time pot user (35 years) died at age 58 of several forms of Cancer. The pot did not even slow it down, odd that.
Go ahead and use your drug of choice but give it some serious thought before you lie.
Big pharma would be all over it if they could connect pot to actual cures, think of the money.

And Reefer Madness is a documentary.

Funny you are all for science when it supports you and what you think, but say it's all nonsense when it doesn't support you and your thoughts. And a link that isn't from Thunderbolts, dim rodent? Whatever has gotten into you? Not feeling well?

Smoking anything introduces particulates into the lungs. That is biologically harmful.

Let's not confuse the method with the imperfect human elements. Now if you'll excuse me I have to flush some dead brain cells.

Vapourizer still has it's draw backs. It tastes like crap and you don't get all the CBD and CBN compounds.

Glycerin or ethyl sublinguals are the best and the cheapest by far.

Yet you constantly ignore or dismiss irrefutable results of experimenting as junk. So it appears that you are not "all for science all of the time".

I find that I must insist that you provide a link. In the case that you do not I will be insisting that you are flogged by one of the bigger moderators until you recant your spurious statement. I am totally innocent of the crimes you have accused me of. I'm completely distraught and unable to continue posting with this accusation hanging over me and I cannot continue to post under these conditions.

I've been reading some encouraging stuff about the ingestion of the bud and leaf in it's freshly picked form.
