I really am not certain of what you are saying here since that is pretty much what mother's and father's day currently represents. So if you are going with the status quo you are already there.

I know some people do believe that is what makes a parent. I personally do not believe the ability to successfully place sperm and egg together to produce a child qualifies them as a parent nor do I believe that the ability to successfully produce children means one should. And I would further point out the level of pedophilia and abuse would support my stance.

A kid doesn't need a mother and father, they need nurturing, guidance and most of all love.

I beleive he is saying that he desires an argument & that you are 'it'.

Perhaps they should just make a Bubble Wrap Day, and make it for every single day, as that seems to be the way we're going right now. "The kids can't handle it, so let's do away with it!". It seems to me that it is a few adults that are the ones that "can't handle it".

As with a lot of aspects of kids' activities! I've seen so many instances where the kids are having fun while the "adults" are at each other's throats. -:)

Can't play dodgeball, can't have celebrations, can't do this, can't do that. Huh! Beginning to sound a lot like that Ted Nugent song!

On the flip side, do taxpayers need to hire teachers to celebrate these occasions? Is that a good use of funding? Aren't the celebrations better suited at home? The 'anti-PC' crowd usually complains about waste and personal responsibility. Where is their outrage for the spending on these wasteful traditions?

Just out of curiosity, who gave that school the authority to discontinue anything? If a kid wants to buy his mom a mother's day card, or his dad a father's day card it is none of the school's business. Neither mother's day or father's day are holidays so what have the schools to do with it?

Yep, it's strange how some people have the propensity to stick their noses into the weirdest places!

They've essentially said they'll stop doing crafts and/or events for those days, and instead do something for international family day.

My kids' previous school always did a craft and a tea for mother's day, and a 'hobby night' for father's day, where they would build kites, etc.

But, you'd often see dads at the tea, and moms building toys. I don't think anyone thought much of it, with the increasingly busy nature of families these days.

The only problem I see with this route, is that in an increasingly secular school system it bodes poorly for children to strip them of still more celebrations.

I really doubt it would cost that much to have the teachers help the students with making cards/crafts for their mothers and/or fathers.

I don't know anything about that community, but if it's a small one and a dozen miners died a few years ago then they might know all too well the issue of reminding kids of parents they don't have (for example). Whatever the issue(s) it could well make a lot of sense, and such a decision is being taken by those who know it best.

It's a free country.

yes.. let the minority rule... change everything in the fear of fending the few..
You would be offended if someone stole your car, yet lo and behold there are laws to help protect you from being offended.
