Seems to me Staples have that upgrade for Win8 in the $70 dollar range. I have a bit of time
so I'll keep looking.
Ah well that's good to hear. I just looked at Microsoft's site and they increased the price. The sale was supposed to end at the end of January, so maybe it's old stock they had during the sale they're still selling, but for a wee bit more.
I'd certainly grab it while you can before it does go up. As mentioned, it's an upgrade pack, so if you don't like it at first, you can just go back to your previous OS.
Chances are, Win8 will be the basis of their future OS's and since it's dabbling in the mobile/touch screen era of things, they'll probably just keep updating it for a good while.
With my Windows Phone, the original OS was 7... When I got my phone it was already 7.5. Now it's 7.8 which is a lot like 8, but for single core CPU phones while 8 is a multi core phone OS. (kinda like the difference between XP 32bit and 64bit.. Same thing on the surface, but operates things under the hood just a little differently depending on the system)
So it'll probably end up the same with Win8 for PC's, where they will just fine tune and update the same OS for free, bumping the version number up as they go.
Thus if you get 8 now while it's still cheap, you can just wait until they upgrade to something you are happy with when it comes.
But I think you would be pleased with it once you figure it out. It is a bit confusing at first, but I figured it out in a little less than a week..... I mean I figured everything out. I certainly don't regret getting 8.
Any questions, just ask.
They do say that because Windows 8 was designed for tablets, it uses less resources than Vista or 7, thus can run pretty smoothly on older systems that are running XP that have a hard time with Vista or 7.
I know for me, it boots up fast, programs load much quicker and for games, they run a lot smoother due to less OS junk hogging things in the background.
Yet the OS still does everything 7 could do and still looks nice.
IMO, Win8 is kind of like two operating systems in one.
You have the Start Screen Metro Thing for your "IPad/Tablet" fix (simple, bunch of apps, quickly reference or jump to things, etc.)
And the Desktop which is like the old desktop we all have known since Windows 95.... which ironically is an App itself. I didn't even notice it for the first two months of using Win8, but in order to close Apps on Win 8 (Not normal programs, but those small apps you download) you usually swipe your finger at the top of the screen and slide down to the bottom of the screen to close the app (Or click-drag your mouse doing the same thing)
Yet programs you install like Photoshop, Games, and other Programs, you close normally with the X button (or by double clicking the top left of the window)
But the odd thing is when you move your mouse or finger to the top of the Desktop, you can close your desktop just like an app.
You can also slide your desktop to the side of the screen so you can have an app displayed at the same time.
There's a bunch of odd things you can do now.
