Traitorous **** that he was..............BUT: thirty or whatever pieces of silver wasn't chump change back then.
I know of guys who'll do ya for a lot less.
Although the evidence is scarce, I will accept that he (or they) may have existed. The myth comes with the deification of the Christ.According to what I've been reading recently (Did Jesus Exist? by Dr. Bart Ehrman) it seems pretty clear that Jesus did exist, in the sense that there was a charismatic Jewish preacher or two, or three, or twenty, in 1st century Palestine--there was a lot of apocalyptic ferment around over the oppressive Roman occupation at the time--who said and did some of the things reported about Jesus, which I take to mean there's a core of truth in the tales but a lot of myth and legend has been built up around them since.

Yes, that's pretty much my take on it too, he did exist but was just an ordinary mortal and most of what's said about him isn't true. No virgin birth, no casting out of demons, no walking on water, no resurrections (his own or raising anyone else from death), no healings of the ill and injured, no ascending to godhood, none of that. That's all standard stuff claimed about religious figures far back into antiquity, long before Jesus' time, and after too, and there's no good reason to believe any of it.

I forgot until just now - sometime this winter I went out onto my deck at about 10pm. It was dead silent up here on the mountain and the snow made it seem even quieter than usual, when all of a sudden I heard a very loud cry. Very strange sound. Nothing like anything I ever heard in the 30 years I have spent living in the forest. My mind went straight to Sasquatch. I heard it several times within about a 5 minute period, then nothing. I know a few people who believe they have heard Sasquatch cry in the forest.
I don't mock or degrade. I take these things seriously, seriously enough to have spent 35 or more years studying the subject. I don't care what people believe, I'm just stating what I found out from my studies. I don't expect to change anybody's mind about it.Say what you will... mock ... degrade... whatever.
What about Bigfoot Cliffy?
What about Bigfoot?
Another one............
Meh, enlightenment to me is what happens when you flip a light on, unburden myself of nutritionally depleted food in the bathroom, find clarity about a solution to a problem or puzzle, etc. Nothing mystical about it.
As far as Judas and Jesus go, I'm not convinced either existed in the first place, let alone what their relationship may have been.

It is. The only source is the New Testament, there is no corroboration in any other documents of the time that he existed at all, we have only a few references in the centuries before Constantine to the annoying behaviour of some of his followers. But a somewhat complex and subtle historical argument for his reality can be made, which Professor Ehrman does with his usual clarity and wit, and I found it convincing. He almost certainly did exist, but only as a charismatic apocalyptic preacher, not the miracle working wonder man presented in the New Testament. All that stuff was layered on afterwards by people who never saw him but used him to further a political agenda. But to say the evidence is scarce?

Why do only religious fanatics and atheist so love to discuss the Bible???????
Normal people don't really feel that need.......
It's not only them. It's the ones who understand that it matters, it's probably the largest single historical and cultural influence on what we are pleased to call western civilization. You'll never make sense of history or literature or any other important parts of the world you live in if you don't know about the Bible's role in them. Why do only religious fanatics and atheist so love to discuss the Bible???????
